Life & Work with Lucius James IV

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucius James IV.

Hi Lucius, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello there, my name is Lucius James IV and I am a 3D artist and animator who recently launched my own clothing brand called Dyslexic Millionaires. I transitioned from shooting and editing videos to 3D during the COVID pandemic. I was in the house a ton and made time to learn a new skill. I had two friends in the film and 3D industry encourage me to start learning these skills for 30 minutes a day. They said this was where the future of TV, film, and advertising was going. I’ve been working with some really amazing people creating 3D art and animations. People and brands like– Karen Bystedt, Nicole Buffett, Bournrich, Michael Joseph, MTLE Studios, Sholme Art, Seyxyes, Eda Yesilbas, Guitarboy, BMW Kenny, High 5 Extrax, and Lip Ocean.

I also started my own NFT Collection on Opensea called the Box Toy Club. It is a collection of fun, rare and unique collectibles. Inspired by life experience they represent an artistic perception of travel, heartbreak, wild personalities, and crazy ideas. Meanwhile, I had a vision for a dope clothing brand! I was always shooting and working with music artists, models and actors, and they were always searching for really cool pieces of clothing for their own projects.

The Dyslexic Millionaires brand is a small company inspired by the fact that 40 to 60% of self-made millionaires show signs of dyslexia. Our brand highlights the natural gifts that dyslexic thinkers bring to the world like strong visualization skills, communicating clear ideas, and building strong connections with others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is full of peaks and valleys and without the bad days, you would never appreciate the good ones. Life is about the journey, not the end destination, the people you meet along the way, and the places and experiences you have. And good or bad you should learn from it all and make amazing memories and continue to grow from every obstacle.

Because when one door closes another one opens, and if you keep pushing bad times will pass and great times will feel brighter. I would say life’s biggest challenge so far was covid and the world coming to a complete standstill for a while. It was a gift and a curse but I used all the downtime to really appreciate every moment of life and plan out the next steps in my future and career and saw what really matters in life

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known as a visual artist with backgrounds in content creation, 3D, and VFX, and now as an NFT artist creating stunning 3D visuals and VFX loops. I have a lifelong passion for creating art and visual content and now making a name in the digital art space.

I honestly feel what sets me apart from others, is being honest, loyal, respectful, and reliable. Here in LA, it’s hard to find all those qualities in a lot of people. I am also extremely creative, outgoing, fun to be around, and easy to work with. Because of these qualities, many friends and clients refer me to others and I get invited to events I never imagined would be possible. Yet, when people can trust you, and you do what you say, the doors will open up wide for you. I have been in places with people from television and just say to myself, “How did I end up here?” People love working with hardworking and loyal people. What matters most for me is creating and inspiring others every day, showing love and appreciation, and having empathy. Of course, it is family and friends who have helped me along my journey giving me encouragement and support to pursue my craft

Networking is one of the best natural skills I’ve mastered. I was a military kid, who lived in 15 cities and was always the new kid in school. I’ve built a whole life from networking with others. One person you know introduces you to another person they know and a new opportunity opens up for you. For instance, my buddy Daze Davinci suggested that you guys at Voyage LA give me an opportunity to be in your publication. And my boy Guitarboy, who’s a big music producer, has introduced many of the industry’s heavy hitters and rising stars like Big Duke and Blanco Brown. Networking will get you just as far as any degree can if you use your network correctly.

And a mentor is never a bad idea. My boy Hakim, who was a Superbowl Champion, has always been a great mentor.

Mentors teach you about life and how to make moves based on good and bad decisions they made in their own life.

You can avoid similar mistakes and have a head start on tackling life. The internet also offers mentoring opportunities. I watch documentaries about great people and athletes to learn to develop and keep a winning mentality.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Omg, that’s a hard question only because I lived in 15 cities growing up as a kid, but I would probably say living in Madrid for 7 years as a kid was some of my most exciting adventures.

Being in a foreign country experiencing their culture firsthand and being fully immersed for years is a totally different experience versus going for 2 weeks on a trip and just seeing the main tourist attractions.
