Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Welborn.
Hi Logan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a North Carolina-born, LA-based singer-songwriter. The sounds of Americana, soul, and folk music filled my childhood home and deepened my appreciation for storytelling and artistry.
Music has always been a core part of my life, almost like a form of therapy for me. During my childhood, I discovered a sense of belonging through the arts. Music and acting helped me cope with the stress of having a medically fragile sibling.
I continued to use my voice as a platform for advocacy and graduated from Duke University in May of 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy. While at Duke, I recorded original music through the student-run label Small Town Records. I amassed over 120,000 streams, performed at the Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night, and opened for iconic artists B.o.B and Two Friends.
In August of 2022, I moved to LA with a dream and a catalog of music and recorded in the Duke student center. Since then, I’ve played many iconic LA venues such as the Viper Room, Molly Malone’s, and Hotel Cafe and released new original music produced by industry veterans.
My music has been described as sounding a “modern oldie.” My vocals encapsulate the nostalgia of a jazz standard, my lyrics have the heartfelt expression of a Southern folk tune, and my production packages the melodies into a modern pop track. My hope is that my songs bring as much joy and resonance to listeners as they have to me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It took a lot of courage for me to make the move to LA. The first 22 years of my life had been spent in North Carolina. All my friends and family were there. The life I thought I would pursue (as an attorney) was there.
COVID really forced me to re-evaluate what brought me joy in life and what gifts I had to share with the world. I’ve always dreamed of being a singer-songwriter; I guess I just didn’t feel like I had what it took to make a career as one.
I still struggle with imposter syndrome. LA is full of talented artists working hard to break through. I often wonder if I’m good enough, if people resonate with my art. When I get the opportunity to perform, I am reassured in my decision. If I could perform every day, I’d be the happiest person on earth.
I also get homesick, of course! My younger sister has had some health concerns over the past couple years, and I feel guilty sometimes being away from my family. I try to visit as often as I can, of course.
I think another difficult aspect of being an artist today is establishing a “brand.” It seems like everyone in LA has a brand and sticks to it. I’m still trying to figure out a “brand” that keeps me relevant but also stays true to myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

I’m known for my powerhouse vocals that define genre.
I just released a music video for my latest song, “Not the Problem.” If there’s one thing I’ve done in LA that I’m proud of, it is that music video. I was working with a very small budget and put together a project that (in my opinion) looks like a label created. The cast and crew was a conglomeration of people I’d met over my year in LA on sets, at gigs, out in the world. It was the best experience.
My hope is that my songs bring as much joy and resonance to listeners as they have to me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest piece of advice for aspiring musicians is to approach every person you meet with kindness. I think a big part of this industry is your ability to work well with others. I say yes to about every meeting or conversation offered to me, as I never know where it may lead!
