Life & Work with Liora Froindlikh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liora Froindlikh.

Liora, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love affair with jewelry and design started early in our family jewelry store. I fell in love with the idea of redesigning pieces of jewelry that people no longer wanted to wear or were outdated. The idea that you could just take the stones and other elements out and recreate them still excites me but today it’s even more important given that jewelry redesign is a sustainable way to upcycle old jewelry. I also have an extensive vintage one-of-a-kind collection that organically grows and changes as one person finds their dream piece and another lets go of something old that doesn’t excite them anymore.

So as a teenager I naturally became the stores designer for both unique custom work and jewelry re-design. After studying four years of journalism and trying to leave the family business, I quickly realized that the jewelry was where my passion lives and I enrolled at GIA, the industry leader for gemology, diamond grading and jewelry design. This schooling took me on an adventure to Los Angeles, where I later made my home, but also Florence, Italy where I was fully immersed in design and honed my skills and craft among the amazing art and culture.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If it was easy everyone would be doing it! Or at least that what my mentors have always said. No, nothing has been easy. The jewelry business has a lot of competition in Los Angeles but I have learned to set myself apart but offering impeccable service, top-quality jewelry and a unique and curated collection where every person can afford something.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love the idea of creating meaningful jewelry. The most rewarding part of being a jewelry designer is that we are commemorating the happiest moments of people’s lives. It’s exciting and challenging to celebrate those momentous occasions with meaningful treasures. I like to use a lot of mythological imagery and geometry in my pieces. You will find lots of eyes, snakes and bees, octagons and hexagons, lines and circles. I believe the entire universe is connected by a highly intelligent design and the forms I use to represent this. Many of the pieces are designed to bring energy, luck or protection to those wearing them. I want to create lasting treasures that will be worn and passed along through generations, time and space. If I have learned anything by working for so many years with gold and diamonds, it’s that jewelry can take on many, many different lives!

What were you like growing up?
I was an eclectic kid, very much into vintage clothes and music. My mother wanted pink, but I opted for ripped and baggy. I have always loved nature and adventure. I am home near the water and feel alive while traveling to new places and trying new things. I have always loved drawing, painting and creative writing.
