Life & Work with Leon Macapagal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leon Macapagal.

Hi Leon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey in photography is quite a long story, so I’ll just give the short version. Got into photography while in going to school for a business degree. Actually ended up transferring schools and switching my major to photography. After graduating, I began freelancing and working for several studios. Today, I’m still shooting a wide variety of interests but primarily focused on lifestyle, fashion and creative portrait photography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. After freelancing for a few years, work started to slow down quite a bit and forced me to go down a different career direction which led me to design. With all my time, focus and energy directed toward design, I slowly began to drift away from photography. For many years I would just use my phone to shoot. It wasn’t until four years ago that I decided to pick up my camera again. So happy that I did because I was able to rekindle my love and passion for shooting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I shoot pretty much everything. Travel, cityscape, architecture, lifestyle, fashion and portrait photography. My bread and butter is definitely fashion and portrait photography. I absolutely love coming up with cool, interesting concepts to shoot and bringing them to life. Aside from being published and featured, I’m just very proud of the work that I continue to create and my evolution as a creator. I feel that my style is different and easily distinguishable from other photographers. With my photos, I attempt to show the strength and ferocity of my subjects while also displaying their beauty and grace.
