Today we’d like to introduce you to Leejames Designs.
Hi Leejames, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in the United Kingdom. At the age of 11, I moved to Los Angeles where I had a deep fascination with the world of art and creativity. From a young age, I was drawn to visual aesthetics and the power of visual communication. This led me to pursue a form of art called GRAFFITI, where I honed my skills and continued that journey through high school.
As I delved into the world of graffiti, I started my career with my dad as a Painter which led me to learn about Graphic Design. As I worked with clients across various industries. This early experience allowed me to not only refine my craft but also understand the diverse needs and preferences of different clients.
Working at a sign shop had a ton of pivotal moments in my career when I had the opportunity to work on a project for a major movie (Forrest Gump). This project opened a lot more doors for us in the motion picture industry, and I soon found myself collaborating on high-profile film campaigns. The challenge of capturing the essence of a movie and conveying it through visual design was both exhilarating and rewarding.
Over time, my portfolio grew to encompass a wide range of projects, from iconic films, and music videos to tv shows. Each project presented its own set of creative challenges, and I embraced them as opportunities for growth and innovation.
In parallel to my graphic design work, I nurtured a deep love for music and art. My collection of vinyl records became a wellspring of inspiration, influencing my design choices and allowing me to infuse unique elements into my work.
As the years went by, my dedication to the craft and my commitment to delivering exceptional designs garnered recognition within the industry. I had the privilege of contributing my skills to artists like SOUNDGARDEN, 2PAC, OUTKAST, JAY Z, JANET JACKSON, 50CENT and many more. These experiences not only showcased my design capabilities but also solidified my position as a respected designer in the motion picture, music industry and Tv realm.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been a mix of smooth roads and challenging terrain, much like any creative pursuit. While I’ve been fortunate to experience significant achievements and exciting opportunities, I’ve also faced my share of struggles that have shaped my path and contributed to my growth. Another ongoing challenge has been staying current with ever-evolving design trends and technologies. The design landscape is constantly shifting, with new tools and techniques emerging regularly. Adapting to these changes and continuously upgrading my skills has been essential to remain relevant and competitive.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I find myself at the intersection of graphic design, art curation, and music appreciation. Where I now have taken a journey of creating fine art with my style of Collage work and dimensional art pieces, along with working on album art and creating flyer designs for Los Angeles’s top spots. My journey has been one of continuous learning, growth, and creative exploration. With every project, I aim to push the boundaries of design, tell compelling visual stories, and contribute to the captivating world of art.
What sets me apart from others in the field of art, street art, and graphic design is not only my technical skill and creative flair but also my deep understanding of the art of visual storytelling. I have honed the ability to seamlessly blend aesthetics with strategic communication, resulting in designs that not only catch the eye but also convey meaningful narratives.
What I am most proud of is my growth as an Artist and being able to share my work with the world and to my biggest supporter, my dad.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My authenticity and ability to infuse your personal passions. Having like-minded friends that can inspire you on a day-to-day basis, Also my love for music that has always played a part in my creative journey and has contributed to my success as well. Which also resonates with audiences on a deeper level.
