Life & Work with Kevin Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Brown. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Kevin Brown

Kevin has a 30-year background in Law Enforcement. After retiring, he worked as a contractor in Iraq for just under a year. Kevin has worked cross-culturally throughout the world to impact the injustice of child sex trafficking, genital mutilation, child starvation, and ensure children receive an education to advance their lives.

Side By Side Church International is a non-denominational church focusing on transforming injustice locally, nationally, and internationally. One important characteristic that separates us from most churches is we are a training center equipping people to “Go”.

One of our main focuses is on sex trafficking where we Identify, Locate, and Recover/Rescue victims. We have several outreaches designed to help victims leave “the life” while helping others to be rescued. From East Los Angeles to East Africa to the Middle East. We have teams in place to expose and transform this insidious injustice.

In 2021, we expanded our human trafficking outreach to include scouring the dark web and social media to identify children worldwide who are being sexually exploited via the internet.

We also go to countries suffering from terrorist activities (ISIS). From 2016-2018, we worked in Iraq and Syria to rescue Yazidi women and children from ISIS. Working with operatives on the ground, God helped us to rescue over 80 women and children from ISIS.

Our future operations will give us the opportunity to identify, locate, and rescue street children who are being kidnapped and murdered for their organs in the Middle East.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many challenges, but God’s grace has enabled us to continue. We started our anti-sex trafficking ministry in 2011. At that time, the idea that the “prostitutes” were victims of human trafficking was new. Churches did not want to discuss it or bring it up. Awareness was lacking. Today, there are many organizations that are doing an excellent job of bringing awareness.

The international work is challenging because oftentimes government officials are complicit in the injustice.

But there are many heroes in those countries who are doing tremendous work while under the threat of persecution/arrest.

One of the greatest challenges is the lack of resources for the victims. Once they leave the life or are rescued, there are only a few locations they can be taken to that will give them the help they need to recover and heal.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My 30-year career as a police officer prepared me for this type of work. I was very blessed to work on the SWAT team for nearly 15 years (half of my career). I also worked as a narcotics operator for several years which equipped me to work in a covert manner in countries where injustices are prevalent. I have been working cross-culturally since 1996 and have come to learn the importance of other cultures and the necessity of working within those cultures to bring transformation.

With the experience I have gained, I help others to attain their passion. They are trained the same way Jesus trained those who followed Him. The model is in the Bible. Every business today trains its employees and that model of training comes from the Bible.

The thing I am most honored about is how God has allowed me to be a vessel in His hand to transform injustice worldwide. All He asks is we believe Him. I chose in 1996 to believe Him and I choose to continue to believe Him today.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Another way we transform injustice is by teaching people how to survive an active shooter. I conduct a 90-minute presentation on what to do in the event of an active shooter and what people can do to identify an active shooter before the event begins. As well, I also conduct threat assessments of campuses, businesses, etc., to make it more difficult for an active shooter to get in and to expedite getting people out.

Future training will be done to help people to identify and survive a terrorist attack. With the sheer number of people entering our country illegally, some are without question sent here to conduct terrorist attacks. That is not a political statement. It is simply true.

We must prepare those living in the USA to prepare themselves for these attacks.
