Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerwin Cervantez.
Kerwin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
2024 was when I started shooting more fashion photography. I was working on spec ads with teams, while occasionally shooting e-commerce and look books for brands. Surrounding myself in the fashion world inspired me to branch out to styling and then ultimately led into fashion design. This year, I was mainly focused on putting all my effort to learning the ins and outs of designing clothes. I originally wanted to design clothes because, while I love shooting for other people or brands, creating my own style and shooting it in the way I want allows me to be fully in control of the artistic direction all the way down to the pieces.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, but when is it ever a smooth road? I dealt with a lot of stress when I was in the production process of making my first piece. I was learning through trial and error and asking any questions I could to my friends that have done it before. Some struggles that come to mind: going through numerous samples, which could’ve been avoided and breaking my daily work laptop.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design clothes for my brand, Laspina. I was a photographer for 5 years and now I’m branching out into a new creative outlet. I’m most proud of how I had this idea from the start of the year and worked on it everyday. Seeing the rollout of the first piece finally come into fruition how I imagined it is something that no one can take away from me!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Ideas aren’t loyal to you. If you have an idea you need to act on it as soon as possible! If you don’t, you’ll end up seeing someone else do it. It happened to me and it hurt.
