Life & Work with Joaquina Gentil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joaquina Gentil.

Hi Joaquina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my journey as a producer and creative almost ten years ago… I am originally from Argentina but have lived in Brasil, NYC, and France before landing in LA. My story started in Argentina while I was training to be an actress, performer, and singer. I had no clue I wanted to be a producer, I just wanted to have a band, act in movies and on stage, and live life. It wasn’t until I had acquired the taste of being part of a project from start to finish that I found purpose and fulfillment in my journey.

Don’t get me wrong – I love to sing and act, but being involved in the development of a project and following it through until it flourishes is the most rewarding experience. It’s crazy to think that about 8 years ago I was going to studios, and training my soul off, and today I can say I produced award-winning films, work with designers and get to develop films with notorious actors and producers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha! I wish it was a smooth road! Producing is not easy – it requires us to know a bit of everything. ” Jack of all trades is master of none… but it is still better than to be master of one” and to make things even more challenging, I started as an actress!

But once I plunged into creating my own work, and helping others bring their work to life, things started falling into place. From producing podcasts, to stage productions, events, award-winning films, and web series – every new project, was a new challenge, a new problem to solve. But that meant I was also gaining a new skill, and living a new experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today I produce a variety of projects. Of course, it wasn’t always that way – I started off in the theater and then had opportunities to start with indie shorts. Now I am still focusing on Narrative Indie projects, but I also work with Influencer Brands, Fashion campaigns, Podcasts & live casts, New Media content, and entertainment… I confess I am a bit of a joker card – I think it is partly due to moving around the world so often, every place has given me something different.

All places have brought me projects and experiences that are close to my heart and made me improve in what I do. In NY I got to produce a short ” Hello Goodbye” that went viral with 2.4 + Million views on Youtube. In France we did the award-winning short “Happy New Year” with Jeremy Banster that won ” Best Drama” and was nominated for “Best Indie Short”, and I created my theater association ” All One Theater” With whom we worked with amazing directors and toured around Europe, including Off West End.

And finally, in LA, I ended up working in productions for FOX/Tubi, Creating shorts that are winning awards like “Pure Modern Love” and “The Spell that Backfired”, as well as working with designers, Tech apps, and Tony-nominated producers. So I think I can’t complain about my journey, since everything has taken me to a better place.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Mmm .. luck is an interesting word. I think luck is a consequence of your desire, will, and work. The more aligned you are with your path, your essence, and your vision for yourself, the luckier you will get along the way. I think knowing what you want, trusting it, and being persistent and diligent bring good luck to you. I am all into manifesting, and things that we think of as “Luck” are just usually these things we manifest coming to life. I think gratitude is greatly attached to it, it allows good things to enter your life.
