Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Avezzu Morandi.
Jada, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started singing when I was very, very young. My mother, to this day always tells me I learned how to sing before I even learned how to speak. I actually started singing though as a way of feeling safe because I was scared of the dark, so I would hum melodies to fall asleep. I started writing songs at 11 years old and even though they were absolutely terrible, I loved being able to express in songs what I wasn’t able to express through speech.
I was lucky enough to get some opportunities in the United States after the right people heard some of my songs after graduating and they soon were able to open doors and I am now able to write songs professionally. So, I am now involved in multiple projects and very excited to do what I love to do 24/7.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, but I’m weirdly grateful for it….? My life was very interesting from a young age. I got to experience both sides of the same coin. I was born into a very privileged family, but at four years old, things started to go downhill. My parents separated and are still to this day trying to get a divorce, 21 years after. I had to deal with a corrupt judicial system that was very unfavorable to women, especially foreign women, so I definitely had to see my mother struggle to even defend herself. That was and still is very hard to see, but I also struggled with different people (relatives) always telling me how untalented I was and how I would never have a career in the music industry. I had to accept a lot of rejections, but learned to never give up at the same time. It also wasn’t the easiest being a woman in the industry because I have encountered industry professionals who also wanted to work with me for the absolute wrong reasons in my opinion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter, but in my career I am definitely known for being a songwriter because of the multiple projects I’ve been involved in, such as being involved in the writing of a charting album, an EP, and several singles. I am a simple girl who loves music just as much as many other people in my field do. If I had to choose an aspect that sets me apart, I think it would have to be my drive, my hard work, and my charisma. I have moved across continents to follow my passion, and as much as I think my talent has been one of the first aspects that have brought me to where I am, I will admit that I think I have been able to get to where I am, professionally speaking, also because I do believe I am good with people. I’ve learned that within any industry, building relationships is a key component to get ahead. If people don’t like you, why would they want to work with you? And as one of my absolutely favorite writers, Felly The Voice has taught me: “Records are great, relationships are better.”
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Inspiring others and being a role model for girls/boys who have struggled with similar things I’ve struggled with has always been my greatest aspiration. So I guess if anyone is reading this I would like to put the following advice that might be cliché but at the same time, it has taken me a while to really put into effect. “Put yourself first. Be your number one fan because if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you.”
