Today we’d like to introduce you to Eztli Amaya.
Hi Eztli, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started organizing in Las Vegas as a way to be active in the community while building cultural and activism connections through art forms. From social justice actions to big fundraiser events, all the work has been a movement for the people, by the people.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In movement work, burnout is the biggest challenge; building the right balanced mindset is necessary in organizing but isn’t always the easiest to navigate. A more surface challenge is always finances. When you’re grassroots, funding can be an obstacle in creating services, programs, media, and other things that make the movement.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work consists of facilitating projects that showcase, collaborate, and build relationships with other creatives in our community. In working with others and understanding experiences, I’ve learned to express that through writing and content creating based on community building. I think mixing culture and art with direct services and advocacy work as big projects is always the goal, being able to celebrate and honor the people for a cause.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Based on Southern Paiute lands – Las Vegas, NV. Showing up and sharing our events is always helpful!
Donations, sponsorships, and collaborations are crucial to keep this work going.
