Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominika Jagelkova.
Hi Dominika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Dominika Jagelkova and I’m DJ/Producer Donna Bucks. I’m originally from Slovakia and I play around the world where is possible. My dream starts in a club. I was worked for Slovakia as a waitress in a club, where I always had the opportunity to observe DJs from afar. One day I ordered what was probably the most expensive DJ console at the time and taught myself to play at home. Of course, it was totally bad, but since the musical ear is the basis, the further it went, the better. Even my first playing was worth nothing, but it was love at first sight and I knew right away that this is what I want to do forever. In the beginning, I was only in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, but then I started traveling and thus opened the door to a world of new opportunities. I played in Austria, England, Germany, Serbia, Spain in Ibiza, also in Italy. I definitely consider Mexico – Tulum, USA – Miami and the Maldives to be the best opportunities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, like any path, the path of DJs is not easy either. It is actually a journey for a lifetime. You don’t get any play just like that, you try to produce, you try to meet new people from the music scene, etc. It’s always a hard road, but as they say, those who never give up always win.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in the genres afro tech house, organic house, and downtempo. It gives me a very sexy vibe. I started producing a year ago, my first track was released with a Dominican singer. Now I’m waiting for a track that will come out in the summer with a singer from Kenya and I’m slowly releasing a new track with Spanish vocals. I really like female voices that I can incorporate into my music.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, I would like to tell future djs to never – never give up and follow their dreams proudly. It is not an easy road, it is a long track for a lifetime. You keep learning new things, you keep falling down, and you keep getting back up stronger. The only way to establish yourself in the world, not only on the domestic scene, is to produce music. If you have the opportunity to sign up for a production course, or if you are self-taught, there are many options on YouTube.
