Life & Work with Devens Klailee of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devens Klailee.

Hi Devens, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started as a fan of Pokémon at a young age and eventually picked up Pokemon Go again when i moved here to Los Angeles and eventually picked back up the Trading Cards and decided to start working in the Pokemon niche with CaliPokeHouse where I would create fun and educational content, my second video i made hit 2 million and i just kept running with it to now having hundreds of millions of views making fun videos about the game i grew up loving.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
All niches of social media definitely has slow seasons but i think with all content as long as you can understand your audience than you can always adapt and figure out how to entertain. I’ve created in a few niches since i started taking video creation more seriously as a job and trying to understand it from an audience POV I’m finding it much easier to create and get millions of views weekly. Sometimes when im struggling I’ve created brand new accounts and some faceless accounts just to experiment and test the algorithm and normally i can go semi viral on each and then i use those tests to adapt the content on the business accounts.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say I’m a content creator who is now more known for being popular in the Pokémon Card business. Before that it terms of content i was more on the YouTube scene making videos with Jubilee and featuring in music videos for artist like Polo G, Ty $ sign, etc. I’ve worked with companies who may not be as Social Media literate and been able to popularize them and bring them business in a fun way that doesn’t feel like forced sales. I’d say I’m most proud of a few videos getting millions of views by just having silly video ideas with friends having fun and being able to share those laughs with the community that I’ve built. I think in a way that sets me apart from other social media marketers, sometimes I think when running a business people lose sight of what brings people through the door, yes having good prices and product is great but i think a lot of people want to be apart of a community and have a good time. That’s what brings a customer back.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Honestly i just doom scroll everyday and get inspired by other people in my field. I’m hyper competitive so when i see other people make some content thats a genius idea or super viral it really lights a fire under me to find out how to do something like that too. Maybe my success if solely fueled by competition 😅😭.
