Today we’d like to introduce you to David Miller

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thank you for having me. My journey began as a mechanical engineer passionate about tinkering and solving complex problems. I did a stint at NASA after college, the tinkering gene runs in my family as my brother Brian is also a tinkerer and passionate about photography and a desire to create unique experiences that bring people together.
Brian founded LA Photo Party in 2007 after discovering at a party in the pre-smartphone era, that there wasn’t a simple way to share DSLR photos automatically to guests. He began creating a software solution that ended up becoming Photo Party Upload. In solving this pain point, he revolutionized the event photography industry. We started by offering an innovative photo activation experience, but in hindsight, it was an ugly, messy jumble of cables and camera equipment. To improve this experience, he began working on the Photo Party Station, a photo booth experience that combined cutting-edge technology with instant sharing. Over the years, we’ve expanded our services globally, developed our own elegantly crafted photo booth hardware that reimagines the essence of capturing memories, and integrated it with our software ecosystem to deliver experiences that are magical. We began working with some incredible clients. It’s been an amazing ride, transforming simple photo opportunities into unforgettable moments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has certainly had its share of challenges. In the early days, introducing and revolutionizing the photo activation business was a challenge. We had to educate clients on the innate value of immersive photo experiences, which wasn’t always easy. There were also technical hurdles—developing proprietary software and hardware required significant investment and came with trial and error. Managing rapid growth while maintaining quality and innovation was another balancing act. Looking back, I wouldn’t say it was smooth, but each obstacle taught us invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to our vision.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Beyond creating interactive photo experiences, we’re deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in event technology. We’ve developed our own suite of software solutions and custom hardware, allowing us to offer deeply resonant and personal customized experiences for our clients, like with our new Generative A.I. Experience, instant media sharing, and on-demand printing. We’re not just a service provider; we’re innovators in the experiential marketing space. Additionally, we place a strong emphasis on client collaboration, tailoring each experience to fit the unique needs of every event. Our goal is to create moments that guests will talk about long after the event is over.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
For me, happiness comes from seeing the joy and excitement our work brings to people. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching guests light up when they interact with our experiences, like at Vidcon, where tens of thousands of guests meet their favorite social media creators in a single weekend. I also find happiness in innovation—solving complex problems and bringing new ideas to life energizes me. On a personal level, spending time with my family and exploring the outdoors with my dog, Sinna, helps keep me grounded. Ultimately, knowing that we’re creating meaningful moments and contributing positively to people’s lives is what makes me happiest.
