Life & Work with Daniel Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Black.

DANIEL BLACK

Daniel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my start with some amazing people giving me a chance. I put in a lot of hard work, but at the end of the day, it was people who opened doors to me that made what I do now possible. I’ve played music my whole life, my parents always made me feel like I could do anything, and I’ve always kind of had a never give up mentality.

In 2019, my wife and I ended up moving to Nashville, which resulted in a lot of personal learning and growth. That growth went hand in hand with the growth of my artistry and the music I make. Fast forward to now, we are doing the same thing again in LA, moving to aim to give more than we take in the community and have the opportunity to grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been like taking a unicycle up a side of a sketchy mountain dirt road covered in snow.

Mainly, the challenges have been self-doubt, overcoming fear, not letting circumstances and outcomes reflect yourself worth and trust, and the music industry is hard to navigate.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make records, put them out, and play shows. I would say I specialize in conveying feeling through music and telling stories. I think what sets me apart from others is actually what I’m proud of and known for, which is a relational and communal focus. I’ve always really valued people so much, and I’ve really been intentional to invest in a relational legacy over a monetary one.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Patience, reliance, and kindness, I would say
