Today we’d like to introduce you to Danae “KC” Angel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I can start by where I am today by saying that I’m celebrating my 1 year Wedding Anniversary with my soulmate, best friend, and favorite human ever this year in November, and I couldn’t be happier!
I’ve had an exciting and varied journey in the world of art and animation. I got my start working on the children’s show Moon and Me at Pinewood Studios in Georgia, where I was an Art Department Coordinator. It was a fun and dynamic role, and I was involved in a little bit of everything: painting, overseeing large and small builds, and even managing the greenhouse where we used live plants to create the miniature sets with live-action puppets. It was a unique blend of stop-motion and live-action that brought such a magical feel to the show.
From there, I had the opportunity to work on art exhibits for Laika featuring Box Trolls, Coraline, and Kubo and the Two Strings at Universal Studios in Hollywood, and several other locations as well. It was incredible to see the artistry of stop-motion animation showcased in a live environment.
My husband introduced me to the music scene and I’ve been so blessed to appear in several music videos; including The Lords of Sin: The Metamorphose, Suicide Silence: Capable of Violence, Ministry: Everyday is Halloween, Vixen: Red, SkumLove: Turbo Lover XL, Beauty in Chaos: Children of the Revolution Ft. Al Jorgensen and Open Your Eyes. Each project has helped me grow as an artist; from understanding how to embody different visual styles to collaborating with diverse creative teams. It’s been a journey of expression, persistence, and constant evaluation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey so rewarding. One of the biggest challenges early on was balancing all the different hats I had to wear. I had to juggle everything from coordinating builds to managing a team, all while making sure the sets were as detailed and authentic as possible.
Another challenge came when transitioning from working on large-scale productions like Moon and Me to focusing more on personal projects, like the YouTube channel with my husband @Metalheads Adventures. I’ve learned how to edit videos through my partner, he’s given me so many gifts that have helped me be successful in this life, it’s a different kind of creativity and responsibility being self-driven while maintaining that same level of passion and attention to detail.
But each obstacle pushed me to grow, whether it was developing time management skills or figuring out how to stay motivated. At the end of the day, those struggles have made me more adaptable and appreciative of every project, no matter the scale.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m proudest of my creative projects with my husband. We love traveling, experiencing new cultures, trying different foods and we share our adventures on our YouTube channel; @Metalheads Adventures. It’s a space where we can explore both our personal and creative sides. We also run an Etsy store; HallowedManor, where we create and sell handmade candles, resin sculptures, and other unique items. It’s a fun way to channel our creativity and share our passions with others.
What sets me apart is my versatility and deep involvement in every stage of a project, from design to execution. I thrive on balancing the artistic and technical aspects of production, and I take a personal approach to everything I create. Whether it’s on a film set or through my own side projects, I’m always eager to learn and push my creative boundaries.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think luck plays a part in everyone’s life sometimes it’s being in the right place at the right time, or meeting the right person. But I also believe that luck only matters if you’re prepared to take advantage of it. I’ve had moments where good timing opened a door, but I was ready with the skills and attitude to walk through it. Even what felt like bad luck at times taught me resilience and helped me find better opportunities.
