Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Rosario.
Hi Colette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Acting has always been my dream and one of my life’s goals. I majored in visual art throughout my high school and college education before working as a graphic artist in NY advertising. In the 1970’s, I took profession dance lessons in New York studios until I was injured. My focus then turned to acting where I studied at some of the top NY acting programs. In 1980, I moved to LA to pursue my acting career as a working actor.
When I married and gave birth to our children in the 1990’s, I dedicated myself to raising my family. Then, when we discovered our son had Autism, my life changed again. I returned to school to complete my BA, obtain my masters, and become a special education teacher specializing in Autism.
In 2010, facing my empty nest years, I returned to doing theatre while continuing to work with people with special needs. I also earned my Doctorate of Education with a focus on infusing drama into Social Emotional Learning instruction for students with special needs. When I retired from teaching, I began my current chapter of my life.
I returned to being a professional actor. I love the whole creative process and working with wonderfully talented people in the world of film and television. I still work with people with disabilities through a theatre company called Born to Act. It’s the best, most meaningful thing I do! For the past six decades, I traveled extensively through all seven continents (51 countries to date!)
I’ve learned to relish each stage of my life so I don’t have any regrets and I am happy to say, my life is full of joy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The old adage: “Life is 10% what is given to you and 90% how you react!” is something to reach for…
My challenges began with being born with ADHD and Dyslexia long before people knew what they were.
I thought I was lazy, stupid and crazy growing up.
Those challenges made me establish goals and work extra hard to achieve a lot of proving points along the way.
I learned to figure out how to do things my way.
Presently, I have only a few decades left of this life before – as I say – I start “barking like a dog.”
Now I realize how precious life is and am very conscious of not wasting a moment dwelling on what cannot be changed.
I wish I knew that many years ago.
I am very satisfied with my life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a petite ball of energy that doesn’t stop! My acting reflects that.
My acting range is a wide 60 to 100.
I use my quick wit, instinct, training, and improv skills to create and enhance my work.
I also have lots of “life experiences” to make my work more unique.
I have a blast playing and just think – I get paid for doing what I love!!
However, I am most proud of raising my children and enjoy each one of them.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love working with people with disabilities. People can help me by helping others who are in need.
Now that’s what makes life precious and rewarding.
Professionally, please look for my work and consider me for that role. I’m a talented and hard worker!! xo
