Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Pavoni.
Hi Chuck, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember, and Illustration has always been a passion of mine. As I grew older I realized pursuing a career in art was possible, Extremely difficult but possible! Even the small chance to do what I love for a living was enough for me to eventually take a risk, and pursue a career in freelance illustration. It’s been a long and bumpy road that led me here, but being able to draw and be creative every day is what drives me to keep going, and I’m very fortunate and blessed to do what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, Anything worth pursuing in life will come with its own unique difficulties and challenges. It doesn’t matter how skilled or gifted you may be, perusing any passion will be extremely difficult. Even artists, musicians, or actors who are now household names, all have stories of how they were turned down, or rejected before they became successful. Failure is a part of the process, and should not be read as a sign to quit, but a sign to persevere. My journey has been filled with ups and downs, but I take comfort in knowing it is all a part of the process. Every artist I look up to went through something similar, but what made them successful was that they kept going. If you are receiving even small amounts of encouragement in the field you wish to enter, it is worth seeing through. I believe if you can overcome these obstacles it can be a very rewarding experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Editorial illustration, and my subject matter usually revolves around music and comics. My artwork is inspired by many comic book artists, but also traditional painters as well. I try and embody a bit of both in my work, and I always try and find a good balance between realism and stylization.
My Favorite thing to draw is anything involving music. I have even been fortunate enough to work with some artists I love for their album art and music videos. I plan on doing much more music-related artwork in the future, and working with more artists as well.
What does success mean to you?
Success is definitely subjective and can be different for everyone but for me it’s simple. As long as I am doing what I love, and able to support myself while doing it, That’s success to me.
