Today we’d like to introduce you to Chief Mellow.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Chief Mellow, born in Columbia, SC. I got into music my senior year of high school and after graduation, decided to pursue it and make a career out of it. The homies and I started recording our own music and throwing our own events in South Carolina for a few years before I moved to California in 2018. I’ve been in Los Angeles since and started producing for myself and the homies doing anything creative to separate ourselves from other artists.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth journey but that’s what makes me want it more! Some of the struggles I have dealt with include finding opportunities back home and in LA to make a living from my music. Some other things I have dealt with include creative inconsistency, self-doubt, being impatient and lacking a clear direction of what I really want to create!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I rap and produce and for the last couple of years, I’ve been running a clothing brand called Eternal Return. I love doing anything expressive and want to be included in every part of any creative process. I’m known for my laid-back musical approach and style in general. I’m most proud of my ability to learn quickly and my taste in culture. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and attention to detail.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love watching youtube videos. I watch anything that keeps me tapped in with the culture.
