Hi Chia Ling, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a motion graphics designer. I have been really interested in Art since I was a kid. Therefore, I went to the art school and studied Commercial Design in college. Four years of training has helped me build a really solid foundation and knowledge of art and design, which really impacted me being a motion graphics designer as my career today
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I first started, it was difficult to gather enough high-quality work to create an impressive portfolio. It took me a long time to build up a body of work and gain experience that showcased my skills, eventually leading to a job opportunity. I began as a freelancer, which offered flexibility but also came with uncertainties. Tasks such as finding clients, negotiating contracts, managing finances, and ensuring a steady stream of work proved to be challenging.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a motion graphics artist and multimedia designer specializing in digital design, branding and advertisements for various platforms. My passion lies in capturing the aesthetic and functional essence of a concept and translating it into creative, compelling visual storytelling. From large, multinational agencies and world-renowned clients to innovative startup companies. As a motion designer, I know the fundamentals of design, and using those skills to create pieces that has unique style and with my personal voice that is what sets motion designers apart from other professionals
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
A mentor can be someone that work with you such as your colleagues or supervisors. I had a really good mentor who was also my supervisor when I first started this career.
