Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanmie Bang
Hi Chanmie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my wedding photography journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. It began as a side gig to explore my creativity, capturing moments for friends and family. Over time, I developed a deeper appreciation for storytelling through photography.
After about a year, I found myself focusing mostly on weddings rather than other types of sessions. This shift made it clear that this was a serious passion for me. I’ve enjoyed documenting a range of love stories and the beauty of each wedding day. I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far and look forward to what’s next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, my journey has been relatively smooth. I’ve been fortunate to have my husband by my side, offering both technical and emotional support. As a designer, he helped me navigate the tools I needed at the start, which was invaluable. He also attended sessions and weddings with me, providing encouragement and support throughout.
While I can’t say there haven’t been any struggles, I’m a fast learner, and I’ve embraced the challenges as opportunities for growth. Each experience has added to my understanding and love for this craft, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in wedding photography, and it took me some time to define my style. Through feedback from clients and fellow photographers, I’ve come to be known for a documentary style that blends artistic, candid moments with traditional elements. I particularly enjoy capturing close-up portraits, as I find they convey the emotions of the day more intimately than wider landscape shots.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to create a relaxed atmosphere for my couples. While many photographers share this trait, I make it a priority to ensure that my clients feel at ease on their already-stressful wedding day. My goal is to help them focus on enjoying their special moments with their loved ones, allowing the photography to unfold naturally.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One app I rely on is SCRL, which I use to curate my photos. I’ve been using it for a few years now, and it has really streamlined my workflow and helped me present my work in a way I love.
As for podcasts, I have a bit of a quirky preference—I’m a true crime fan! I enjoy listening to these captivating stories while I edit photos, which might seem ironic given the joyous nature of my work. One of my favorites is “Rotten Mango” on YouTube; it’s entertaining and keeps me engaged during editing sessions.
These resources not only enhance my productivity but also add a bit of fun to my creative process!
