Life & Work with Blake Coppelson of LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Coppelson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Of course! I started back in the YouTube days about 12 years ago. I had a passion for sharing music to my friends and YouTube was the easiest way to do this. What I didn’t know that I was doing was being the first person uploading all of these songs to YouTube. Slowly other people started listening to my uploads and developed a pretty significant following.

From this opportunity I realized that I could pursue a career in music not only as a tastemaker but leveraging this platform to start a record label, management agency, and ultimately starting my own events.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! Dealing with the ever changing music industry from MP3’s to streaming as well as content ID, copyright strikes and takedown notices, my channel was always in jeopardy of being shut down. Expanding in to new ventures has always been a mix of risk and reward but at the end of the day music is a passion and career that I will ride to the very end.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of the most interesting and rewarding experiences in music has been management. It’s almost like a relationship where you’re constantly in contact with the artist and helping develop them from the ground up to seeing them rise to stardom and succeed on a grand scale. What sets myself and my team apart from others is that we take unique untraditional approaches to our record label and management. We’re much more flexible when it comes to our terms and want the people we work with to want to work with us. We have no contracts and don’t lock in our artists to long term deals in the hopes that our work and dedication makes them want to continue working with us.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Whether it’s a label release or a show it’s similar to a chef seeing their customer enjoying their food. If we throw an event or we see comments of fans loving our latest music release, it’s incredibly gratifying to know we’re doing a good job and people are enjoying themselves.
