Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Dunlap
Hi Billy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a fan of creating and making music. I grew up listening to various artists from my parents and that ranged from soft country to Bob Marley who is one of my favorite artists. In middle school my friend Cameron and I decided to release a song as a group and my passion grew from there. In high school I released a couple songs on my own but nothing too serious. Halfway through my college career I was making music for fun and I showed my friends the music and many of them mentioned that it was actually pretty good. So in the summer of 2024 I put out my first official mixed and mastered release and began my career as an artist. I’m so glad I did it then but I wish I took it seriously earlier on. Music is what makes me happy and what keeps me going each day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been fairly smooth, but my biggest hump I had to get over was worrying about what others thought of my music. It feels very vulnerable to put out my work. I’m showing people what goes on in my mind and not everybody is going to like it. I had to tell myself that no matter what I put out there will always be people who don’t like it but majority of people will listen to and support the music. When I released my first songs bossa / 2 late it was me pushing all these negative thoughts aside and just going for it, and I’m so I glad I did.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer/rapper and I specialize in a mix of many genres. I am inspired by Brent Faiyaz, Sade and Bob Marley and incorporate elements from them and more throughout my music. I am proud of all the music I put out as I think they are are uniquely me. My song rainfall is a slower R&B song but still incorporate my touch and elements of rap are brought out and same goes with another song of mine tempo. I also work on the side as a model and have modeled for brands such as GOLF, RHUDE and Uniqlo. I enjoyed doing that as well as I feel it’s another way for me to express my creativity.
What’s next?
I plan to release an album in the next month or so, I’m super excited as I’ve been wanting to put an album out for a while. I think the songs on it are some of my best yet so I can’t wait for people to hear how I’ve evolved. It has been months of work putting it together so once it’s finally out I will feel relieved.
