Life & Work with Betsy Chasse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Chasse.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m told my birth was filmed for a documentary on natural childbirth. I was child number 6, so my mom had the birthing thing down.

Flash forward 7 years and as I was a mini majorette martching in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, a commercial agent took a liking to my ruffle butt uniform and my dimples… 120 National commercials and a few TV Shows (Charles in Charge, Who’s The Boss, and others) I decided what I really wanted to do was direct!

I started Rampant Feline Media when I was 22… started out producing soft-core porn and B-movies for Playboy and late-night TV…

Took a detour into making gourmet dog treats when I was asked to be a part of a movie called Sacred Science… which ended up becoming What The Bleep Do We Know… and boom from Hollywood b queen to Spiritual sage in a quantum second.

The questions about who we are and why we are here have lingered and I have spent the last 24 years asking them to all sorts of interesting people. Written several books, make more films and series…

I still don’t have the answers, but I have a lot of fun on the journey…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think Life Is meant to be all rainbows and moonbeams. The struggles that we go through are what teach us what we’re here to learn.

I think my biggest struggle has been getting out of my own way, out of my own head, and learning to have trust and faith in myself and my abilities.

Learning to trust my intuition when something is right and when it’s not. Everything else, money, access, information, seems like it’s the hard stuff, but if you can just have trust and faith in yourself you’ll get through it.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that failure is a gift. Society has put so much pressure on us to always succeed and even the modern definition of success has become harder and harder to attain. For me, success is that I got, up gave it the best shot I had, laughed while I was doing it, and met amazing people along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my heart, I am a storyteller. I make films and documentaries and write books that explore, from one person‘s perspective and experiences, life and our meaning and purpose.

I’m best known for the film What The Bleep Do We Know, I’ve also produced Song of the New Earth, Pregnant in America, and other documentaries. I am currently in production on a new series called The Galileo Project.

I have multiple books including The Documentary Filmmaking Master Class, Tipping Sacred Cows, and Killing Buddha.

Any big plans?
I used to want to change the world. I realized the best way to do that was to grow and evolve myself.

I’m currently working on a few projects a doc you series called The Galileo project, a short documentary called Hanna’s Right To Try, and other projects.

My main focus is to continue raising my awesome children who are about to finish high school in this crazy world. And to continue to try to create entertaining media that inspires people to love themselves a little bit more, love each other and the planet a lot more, and remember that in the end, everything is going to be OK.

My favorite quote is by Jack Kerouac who says;  “Be in love with your life and every detail of it.” That’s my biggest practice right now.
