Today we’d like to introduce you to Amancio Walker
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from Boston, Massachusetts born and raised, and I have faced my fair share of both triumphs and challenges growing up. My desire to step out into the world and really make my mark started at a very early age for me. I was on the debate team from 6th to 9th grade garnering over 13 awards for both the Novice and Junior Varsity divisions. I also took acting classes which helped propelled me to star in a local Boston play titled “Queens” by Moonbox Productions. I dabbled into journalism as an editor for my school’s newspaper which also helped opened the doors to network with some celebrities. For example, Cedric Maxwell who is a former NBA player for the Boston Celtics & New Edition’s Mike Bivins when he occasionally stopped by in Roxbury. I was also a consistent high honor roll student during those years as well, graduated from TechBoston Academy in 2020 and furthered my education at Bunker Hill Community College majoring in Communication & Media studies while pursuing my dreams of being an actor and a media personality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it’s a mixture of both smooth & rocky. My professional life came with it’s challenges but on paper it would be considered inspiring to anyone especially at those particular ages 9-18. My personal life however, came with several challenges shaping who I became today. Firstly, being both black & gay in a semi-strict but religious household was a taxing period at the time. My mother and I were always close even to this day but around ages 11-13 she started to get back into the dating market. She wanted to be with someone who I would look up to as a father like figure. This one particular boyfriend of hers at the time was very verbally and mentally abusive towards me. Even to the point where he tried to sever my mom and I’s relationship by telling me verbatim, “I’ll take your mom away and you’ll never see her again”. It took me years to get over those words and I was in therapy for 7 years during that time as well. My dad was an alcoholic so seeing him sober was extremely rare for me growing up. He would always drink anytime I spent time with him. We had our fair share of altercations but luckily, we have made up and closed that chapter of our lives and maintained a healthy relationship. I was also bullied from 2nd to about 11th grade over the typical things that people who experienced that were made fun of. Being fat, wearing the “not so” popular name brands, being gay which everyone assumed I was, but I haven’t made it known until later on at that time of my life. When I did, the treatment from my peers became increasingly worse. In addition to those events happening to me at the time, I had to learn how to stand up for myself and express myself without fearing the backlash that came with it considering that I grew up as an only child.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create content on YouTube ever since I created my self titled youtube channel in 2013 but I haven’t taken it as seriously until 2017. Starting off, I used the video games Minecraft & The Sims to create parody reality shows. The storylines within those shows I’ve made were off of inspiration from my own personal life with a twist. Overtime more people started to take notice and I gained a following from it. Garnering from only 400 up to 5,000 subscribers and ongoing. Around 2021, I leaned towards more lifestyle content to really give my subscribers a more in-depth insight of who I am and try to make a name for myself after the pandemic. It’s still going strong to this day. I also post my lifestyle / modeling pictures on my Instagram feed & stories. That also helped increase my following and gained some buzz around the city of Boston. In 2022, I created my podcast titled “The Straight Outta My Mouth Podcast” since podcasting was on the rise at that time and I wanted to share my commentary outside of just only YouTube. I took a break from it due to focusing my energy onto other things but I am bringing it back later this year so be on the lookout for it guys!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself becoming a household name in 5-10 years from now. Even further than that God willing. With the work I’m putting in now and continuing to establish myself as a multi hyphenate businessman, I am more than confident enough in achieving that goal. I not only want my friends and family to be proud of me, I also want to be proud of myself looking back when I do get there. Telling my former self that you made it, you worked for it, now go and enjoy it! As well as being that change that you dreamed about to happen. Also, if someone out there reading this can be inspired to find their purpose and take advantage of it, then they’ll achieve whatever they desire like myself. I’m a 22 year old that creates content & an overall enterprising individual who sets high standards, learning about life as I go and having fun while doing it.
