Life & Work with Allauné Blegbo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allauné Blegbo.

Hi Allauné, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I discovered dance through a friend in middle school but it was only in high school that I realized that it could be an actual job. While falling in love with the training of dance, I was discovering different ways to live and to speak, thanks to TV shows and youtube videos. I only spoke French and would spend our watching videos of people speaking a language I did not know yet. Thinking about this teenager, now that I live in Studio City, CA and worked with some influential artists in the musique, movie and dance industries, is surreal.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a smooth road for a while. I trained with some of the best teachers in the world, got big auditions, booked great jobs, and realized my dreams. But at some point, many years later, I was not dreaming anymore. I was just working to keep living in my old dream and keeping them alive because I was scared of the failure I could experience trying to make my new/updated dreams alive. Even when the road was smooth at the beginning, struggles happened. For example, I booked a musical back in Paris, that was my dream. Couple of days into rehearsal I dislocated my knee, had to go through surgery and stopped dancing for a year. It was devastating but I knew I would make it through. I worked hard, took time to feel great again and booked my 1st Madonna’s world tour two years later.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a dancer trained in many styles like jazz, ballet, contemporary, Hip Hop and House but I am known for my freestyling and my floorwork approach. The impact of the show “queen blood” on the audience is what I am the most proud of. I am a member of the female crew Paradox-sal and we are touring with a show called “queen blood”. After our show a women came to me once and said that she was battling depression and that our performance made her feel alive again. What can be more powerful?! My training is not unique but my choices as dancers are. The way I choose to mix the dance styles I practiced sets me apart from others.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was shy, calm, and loved to laugh with my friends. I was a dreamy kid.
I would perform alone in my room.
I loved American singers and actors.
I was obsessed with Kpop and Kdramas.
I was traveling a lot with my family between Europe and Africa because my mom is from France and my dad is from Ivory Coast.
