Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Lee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As far as my artistic journey goes, I like to tell people that it must have started when I was three when I put pencil to paper and just never stopped. It wasn’t until after high school I learned about turning my love for illustration into a career through Art Center College of Design. Since graduation, I’ve been working as a storyboard artist in the film/TV industry and in my off hours putting together my own graphic novel series.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me one of the struggles was building up the social acumen to match my technical skills; I don’t deny the stereotype of the shy, introverted artist applied to me when I was younger! There’s also the ever-shifting nature of the artistic field whether it’s finding the right social media platform to boost your reach or, more recently, the rise of AI-generated artwork which I believe places more imperative on artist to promote themselves and being wary of their worth in the market.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself a “visual storyteller” which encompasses my body of work (storyboarding, illustration, and graphic novels). One thing customers and clients alike always say is they enjoy my attention to detail. It’s definitely a trait I like to bring to all my projects, both as a way to stand out but also as a personal challenge to myself.
What do you think about happiness?
Being able to problem solve. Whether it’s helping someone else or figuring out mental hangup that’s been bugging me all day/week/year.
