Today we’d like to introduce you to Airica Hartsfield.

Hi Airica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My esthetician era didn’t start in a classroom — it started in the mirror.

Like so many of us, I’d been on a long journey with my skin. Years of dermatologist visits for hyperpigmentation had given me results, but left me looking for more — a real routine, someone who actually got it. My concerns weren’t “dramatic” enough for most providers to dig deep, so I often left appointments feeling unseen.

Then I found Jeff at The Skin Factory in Pasadena. He sat with me, heard me out, and built me a routine that finally made sense for my skin. Monthly facials became my ritual, my skin barrier started thriving, and somewhere between the steam and serums, something clicked.

I’d been thinking about re-entering the beauty world — but make-up artistry wasn’t calling me back. Skin was.
So I did what any newly-glowing, newly-inspired person would do — I told Jeff I was thinking about esthetician school. He was super supportive. After researching a few programs, I landed at Simply Divine Academy in Monrovia, CA. The support I received from friends, family, instructors, and fellow students made the whole experience feel like a full-circle moment. It confirmed what I already knew in my gut: I love skin, and I love helping people reach their skin goals — with real talk and realistic expectations.

After getting licensed, I started the spa job search but simultaneously jumped straight into building my own clientele. Has it been a lot? Yes. Has it been worth it? Absolutely.

This journey has been fun, educational, slightly chaotic, and deeply rewarding — all at once. I’m still building my brand and finding my vibe, but I’m so here for every person I’ll meet and every new thing I’ll learn along the way.

The skin nerd era is just getting started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The economy is doing the most right now, and not in a good way.

Building clientele in this climate has been… interesting. I quickly realized that waiting for clients to come to me wasn’t going to cut it. So I did what this era demands — I stepped into the world of content creation. Anyone that knows me understands that this does not come naturally.

I’ve never been the “post every day, hop on every trend” type. Reels are intimidating. Voiceovers terrify me. Right now it’s very much “just hit record before you talk yourself out of it” kind of energy. But I’m showing up anyway — featuring products I genuinely use, love, and put on my clients’ skin with full confidence.

The road has not been smooth.
But what it has been is educational. I’m deep in research mode, letting ideas marinate, getting comfortable being visible, and — one of my favorite parts — connecting with other estheticians. There is so much to learn from this community and I am soaking up every bit of it.

This season is full of possibilities.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My specialty includes customized facials and waxing — but realistically, 99% of my work has been facials. And I don’t just mean slapping on a mask and calling it a day. It starts way before you even get on the table.

Every new client gets a thorough intake form. I want to know your history, your concerns, your lifestyle, any cosmetic procedures you’ve had, and even the preferred duration for a facial. The more I know, the better I can build something that actually works for you. From there, I handpick products based on your specific concerns.

What I’m most proud of are the relationships I have built.
It’s the conversations. That moment when I can sit with a client, really listen, and help them figure out where to focus — meet them exactly where they are in their skincare journey. That part will never get old.

Here’s the thing about this industry — every esthetician has their own vibe, their own approach, and that’s what makes it so beautiful. I’ve sat in the dermatologist’s chair as a patient. I’ve lived through a rich career in fashion and e-commerce. I understand what it feels like to want to reinvent yourself, to be in a season of transition, or to just want to fix one little thing that’s been bothering you. So when you come see me, you’re not just getting a facial. You’re getting someone who genuinely gets it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
To every single person who has booked a service, reposted, liked, commented, or just sent a little encouragement my way — I am so grateful. You have no idea how much that support means when you’re building something from the ground up.
