Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrine Bazikyan.
Hi Adrine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Adrine Bazikyan, MS, MA, LMFT, started her career when she first joined Valley Trauma Center as a rape crisis advocate years ago. As a young therapist, she had the opportunity to work with the most vulnerable population, victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. From that point on, she began visiting hospital settings to be with victims, provide individual counseling and crisis management, and participate in case management and community outreach projects and presentations.
Her learning continued and advanced when she earned her Master of Science degree from California State University, Northridge, and continued her education under the guidance of Dr. Charles Hanson, Dr. Roger Moss, and Dr. Luis Rubacalva. Adrine completed her Master’s Thesis on childhood trauma and the long-term impact of child abuse and neglect. Soon after, Adrine joined Trinity Youth Services as a Residential therapist to work with troubled young adolescent boys on probation and in foster care. Her learning expanded through providing treatment to individuals who have post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, poor body image, and relationship issues by using psycho-dynamic, existential, and humanistic approaches to treatment. Soon thereafter, she became a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist and became a Clinical Director, starting her career in Leadership. She understood the importance of leading a group of professionals in an organization, at the same time creating a program that served best for adolescent boys on probation with various mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Additional leadership positions she held include Director of Clinical Quality Assurance, Utilization Review Analyst, Quality Improvement Director at Penny Lane Centers, and Clinical Director at The People Concern and Valley Recovery Center. Her work continued with auditors at the state level, ensuring that clinical treatment interventions were appropriate and adequate and met the Joint Commission, State, and Department of Mental Health standards. These experiences over many years helped her understand not only her love for providing and helping others grow and thrive, but also for helping other professionals advance personally and professionally. Adrine Bazikyan earned her second master’s degree in Human Development in December of 2025 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Development to further her passion for knowledge and growth, specifically in trauma, post-traumatic growth, and complex trauma.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Behavioral health faces numerous persistent obstacles and challenges in the United States and globally. These issues contribute to significant treatment gaps, with many people unable to access timely, effective care. Also, despite growing mental health awareness, stigma persists. Many people fear judgment, embarrassment, and discrimination, which discourages seeking help when desperately needed. Our goal is not only to assist individuals in getting the support they need but also to break down negative stereotypes, shame, and judgment that prevent people from seeking help. Our goal is to shift the focus from illness to building protective factors, such as social connections, and encouraging self-care to support overall thriving.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
