Life & Work with Ace2x

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace2x.

Hi Ace, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Dallas. I actually did a lot of film work + filmmaking growing up and that was kinda my thing but my senior year of high school I decided it wasn’t really my passion, more of a hobby. This had me lost because I was about to graduate and had no clue what I wanted to do.

I used to travel a lot so I’ve always been that kid with his headphones in ALL the time just in my own space. So when thinking about what I really wanted to do, I knew it had to be something music related, but being an artist was never in my original plans. I didn’t look down on myself as if I couldn’t do it but I genuinely thought that it just wasn’t me.

I started out makin beats at online websites, then my homie said he knew a guy from Nepal that makes beats so I got in a Discord call with him and he showed me how to make beats and I talked to him about America. After I got the ropes of it I strayed away from making type beats and started letting my creativity flow and that’s when I started selling beats to people.

I had a few beats sold and artists were hitting me back with their verses and no hatin but I felt like I’d rather just hold on to em and see what I could do 😭. I’d already made 1 song previously just messing around with my homie Trey and it ended up getting around 3k streams on SoundCloud so I figured I’d try and be serious.

I started going to LA Film and met so many other musicians, rappers, producers, singers, and engineers. Everyone with their own style and reason for being there, I knew I had to step up. Fell in line w some crazy dope people like Isaac Rich🐐, Diani, Dalen, Jack Garrett, Laryah Moñeya, and had so much guidance from some of my teachers Nova, Jonny, Micheal Angelo, Tracy, etc

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like overall, it’s been as smooth as I can ask for. I’ve have a few struggles personally outside of music either dealing with emotions or expenses. Was working 2 jobs at one point losing hella sleep but that’s what it is sometimes so I can’t really complain. One thing I’d like to do this year is to expand my team though. Need people like social media marketers, videographers, photographers, entrepreneurs, fashion designers, anyone who can see the vision and contribute to the collective.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a utility player in everything that I do. That’s why I go by Ace, a jack of all trades typa thing. I started out as a producer. Self Producing “Intro”, “Over Top”, and some other unreleased music. Worked my way into being an artist and have recently been sharpening my engineering and vocal-producing skills. I’m also skilled in filmmaking having won 2 NAACP National Awards for short films and runner up in the Denton black film festival. I wrote, directed, filmed, and edited those. Have also done credited graphic design in films and even worked with Netflix. I’ve also put together and hosted live music events which I’ve performed in. I believe building a team of people I trust to help me with these tasks and build a real fanbase.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
