Life & Work with Sean Russel Herman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Russel Herman.

Hi Sean Russel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a filmmaker and I love to make people laugh. Creators like Taika Waititi, Chris Lilly, Danny Mcbride and Quentin Tarantino are big inspirations to me. They all have their own unique styles and different outlooks. They’ve always done their own thing. I grew up playing a lot of sports and my projects tend to have a lot of physical movement in them. I started filming a lot of skateboarding and surfing when I was a kid, and it branched into filming comedy sketches. Once I experienced the feeling of people laughing at my films, I was hooked. For me, making people laugh and brightening their day is my purpose.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been a lot of ups and downs in my career. It took me a while to realize the importance of the lessons learned along the way. Sometimes life can be so ridiculous that you have to laugh at it and let go.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a filmmaker who specializes in action-comedy projects. Currently, I am finishing two feature films, Chief Gunner and the Kali Karate Show. The Kali Karate journey has been full of humbling life lessons and direction. It has fallen in and out of multiple production deals over the past few years, and we decided to finance and shoot it ourselves. I am extremely proud and humbled to have such supportive fans and friends who keep pushing the world of Sensai Houston. You can check out the Kali Karate series on our Youtube channel, Kali Karate Show. Chief Gunner is a post-apocalyptic action comedy which will be finished early next year. I love the whole aspect of filmmaking, from laughing at the thought of a character, creating the world, then releasing it to the public.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Working and surrounding myself with positive, compassionate, and hard-working people. It’s important to remember why I’m doing what I’m doing and to not be so serious all the time. At the end of the day, I just want to be a happy, better person.
