Life & Work with Pance Pony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pance Pony.

Hi Pance, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a classically trained songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame National Scholar, and songwriter for various artists on RCA, Republic and SONY Records. I never had the desire to pursue a solo career until a long-term abusive relationship left me with PTSD and Agoraphobia. In 2020, I made it my resolution to face my biggest fears and release a solo EP about my recovery from PTSD. In one year, I’ve overcome my phobia, recorded an EP from my studio apartment, began performing weekly, released a music video, and written another EP. In 2021, I will be joining forces with Broadway talents and Professional videographers to create a digital musical experience from a series of sequential music videos. Bloodthirsty is the first video of this series. I will also be announcing my membership in a new band.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The greatest struggle has definitely been my abusive relationship, but I also struggle with opening up my provocative and bold artistic moves to my conservative family. I’m determined to help my family see that alternative ways of living are nothing to be afraid of.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a classically trained songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist (cello, piano, drum machine), the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame National Scholar, and songwriter for various artists on RCA, Republic and SONY Records. I never had the desire to pursue a solo career until a long-term abusive relationship left me with PTSD and Agoraphobia. In 2020, I made it my resolution to face my biggest fears and release a solo EP about my recovery from PTSD. Six months later, I released Metamorphosized: Act 1, a 6-song narrative journey through the darkest corners of my mind. I wrote, recorded, and released the album from my 60-square-foot studio apartment in NYC. Although my music is whimsical and light, my lyrics are hard-hitting and vulnerable. I hope to juxtapose the “sweet” nature of my music and voice with darker themes in my collection of music videos. “Bloodthirsty” is the first of this series of music videos, and it’s definitely a statement piece. Currently, I have two more sequential music videos in pre-production, and I’m assembling my team to record and release Metamorphosized: Act 2. One day, I hope to write a musical.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you listen to my music, please reach out and tell me what you think! Although my art is hardcore and provocative, in reality I’m harmless and quite shy. My music is written to convey multiple meanings, and I’m always interested in hearing different interpretations of my lyrics. It helps me refine my craft. Along with my solo career, I thrive as a collaborative artist, bringing a collective vision to life.
