Life & Work with Jackie Kakish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Kakish.

Hi Jackie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I received an Easy Bake oven for Christmas, I fell in love with baking! I decided to go to Culinary School a few yrs out of high school and was able to get an internship at Walt Disney World in Orlando. I learned a lot there and when I decided to move back to LA, I started working at a little bistro in Montebello and was in charge of coming up with new desserts. After working at a few different restaurants, I decided to start my own at home bakery, Cakish Cakes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been plenty of challenges, starting out I knew nothing about cake decorating! I learned a lot through youtube and just getting out there and trying techniques that intimated me. I always try to find new classes or videos showing new techniques and always try to learn or come up with my own!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a custom cake and dessert studio located in Montclair. I specialize in special occasion cakes and also provide a Mexican twist to some traditional flavors. I offer a Mexican chocolate cake with a Mexican chocolate custard filling! This is always a hit!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see this industry taking off especially after Covid ends!
