Today we’d like to introduce you to Fevah Rutland.
Hi Fevah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off in my hometown Cincinnati, OH. I went to arts school at SCPA from 5-12 grade where I majored in vocal music and drama and was trained in classical voice. I grew a great appreciation for music and the voice and later decided to pursue a musical career after starting a band called Eclectic Vibe. I performed with EV for about three years in Cincinnati and surrounding cities before deciding to move to LA in 2015.
After driving cross county alone I ended up in Santa Clarita staying with a cousin. I ventured into LA going to open mics to perform and network. In 2017 I released my first single “West Coast Lovin” and the song made it to IBA Soul Charts, top 30. I have just released my second EP, “.WAVS” on 11/11/20, produced and co-written with multi-Grammy Award- winner Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas, BTS, John Legend) and I’m excited to see how this project is received by my listeners.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to where I am now has not been easy. I spent a lot of time couch surfing, moving around, even had to spend some nights in the car. My living situation was constantly changing but I had to continue to be optimistic and press forward. Toxic relationships, being denied and judged for being a plus-size woman, periods of depression and self-doubt… I literally have had to battle it all in these past five years. I believe I’ve learned the most about myself and my passion for music through those difficult times.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer/songwriter. I sing soul/Rnb/jazz music and I’m known for giving you a feeeeevah when I sing. Two of my songs have charted. “West Coast Lovin” on IBA soul top 30 and “Do You Better” was on UK Soul Connoisseurs Top 20. I also won the opportunity to perform my original song at BET Experience on the Sprite stage last year. What sets me apart from others, I think is my pen and my ability to be versatile yet soulful.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I looove the weather and the beach in LA and the opportunity. I hate the cost of living and the traffic and what Hollywood can do to your self-esteem.
