Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tyler Hales

Tyler Hales shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Tyler, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
When I first wake up, I pack my gym back with my work clothes and take my vitamins and make my drink mixes. I then spend time meditating, reading my bible, and then writing in my journal. I love beginning my day this way so that my mind is right and excited to crush the day. I then head to the gym and strive to get my body right and ready for the day. After the gym, I relax in the sauna and take a cold shower. I get dressed and put my bowtie on and drive to work to start the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dr Tyler Hales and I am a cosmetic dentist that specializes in custom natural veneers. I have spent about half my career really focused on the drive to create a product of veneers that are customized for the patient and really encompass the characteristics of natural teeth. What I have designed are called Harmony Veneers. Everyone of my patient comes to me with a story and a history of how they got there or why they don’t like there smile. I listen and together we craft the next chapter of our patients lives that creates Harmony for them. This allows them to live with no limiting beliefs and a smile they can be confident in.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a kid, I was very laid back and easy going. My mom called me the B+ kid because I always did just enough but never over the top to get the A. I didn’t see myself as a leader or the smartest kid in class. Now, I know anything is possible. It is just about how much I believe in myself. Today, I believe I can make an impact in anyones life and I can be the best at anything I put my mind to.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One of the greatest fears that has held me back was failure. There were so many times, I didn’t even start things because I thought I would fail or I wasn’t good enough. It took me many years and maturing to realize that this was only holding me back and failure wasn’t a bad thing. There were many failures that actually allowed me to grow the most and this allowed me to stop fearing failure. I turned into and looked for opportunties to fail so that I could be better.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I truly strive to show my life as it is. I love my family and the time we get to spend together. I try to showcase them as much as possible because I charish these moments. My kids will not be young forever. I also show my passion for dentistry. I try to teach others the knowledge that I have learned over the years. I strive to be a leader in the field and help anyone interested or asking. It is not always easy and there are not always successes. I try to show that at times and talk about failures. I goal is always to achieve perfection but that is rarely achieved.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’ve learned that outer praise is only temporary. It feels good when someone else recognizes your hard work and efforts but what really matters is how you see yourself. I teach this to my kids everyday because its important for them to learn. They don’t need to rely on there friends for happiness. It takes a lot of work to be fully satisfied with our own self. It takes a lot of work to really understand who it is we are. This is something that I work on everyday by meditating and writing in my journal and searching on myself.
