Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Salina Nèou of Glendale

We recently had the chance to connect with Salina Nèou and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Salina , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I absolutely love being out in nature. I can go fishing from sunrise to sunset and be upset because it’s never long enough. The sun, breeze, and variations of life all around help remind me of how precious and magical each day really is. It’s my time to reflect and immerse in gratitude. I can get lost in a plant just by staring at it’s details.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I grew up all over New England and drove across country to Los Angeles ten years ago. What started off as just a summer getaway to experience something different became my home as I quickly became in demand as a nail artist. Quite frankly, I’m obsess with my career. I get to hang out with the coolest people and create art with lots of laughs and vulnerability in between.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My clients aka my girls. I grew up being hard on myself and hyper fixating on what could be better. I started working at 16 and they were the ones who saw me as a person instead of faults. With time, they told me things I needed to hear that healed and help built up the love inside of me. That’s why they all have my personal number and know they can reach out for anything and I’ll always do my best to be the support they need.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My pets! I’m an animal lover all around who grew up with different species but dogs will always be near and dear to my heart. No matter how I’m feeling or any time of day, hugging one of my fur babies made everything instantly better. Rest in heaven Daisy, Chico, Cheenie, Mighty, Cookie, Paris, and CoCo.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I try to be honest in all aspects because I believe living in alignment creates the best life for each individual. I’m very much myself on social media to the point of getting banned and losing out on jobs for speaking out against injustice. But on a lighter note, outside of posting about nails which is a majority of my feed, I post about the things that consume me the most. Different food spots and my chihuahua, Hannibal Lecter, frequent my stories. I also like to post motivational quotes or funny memes in an attempt to lighten up the world and hopefully make someone smile. That describes me as a person.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
You know that feeling the night before vacation where you can’t sleep thinking about tomorrow? I get that often with my girls. There’s an extra special bunch where I count down the days until I see them again and get sad when they’re about to leave my chair. Sometimes I even start to slow down towards the end of the service on purpose so we have more time together. I have days where those clients are back to back and those days my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
