Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Karina Arrezola-Reyes of El Sereno

Karina Arrezola-Reyes shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Karina, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day starts with me dropping of my kids, walking my dog & have a light breakfast. By 9:45am i should arrive at our shop to open at 10am. We are open from 10am-4:30pm Tuesday to Friday. Once we close, i head back home & go back to mom mode.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi everyone, my name is Karina & I am owner of Forth Unit. We have been in business for 5 years & we just opened our first shop in El Sereno. Im super excited to bring something new to the community. We sell gold filled, gold plated jewelry & we also have a few other services. Some of our services are a charm bar; where customers can build their own bracelets/necklaces, laser engravings; we can engrave photos of your loved ones or of your fur babies. Lastly, we offer permanent jewelry, with this we can do bracelets, necklaces, anklets. Our goal is to grow & build relationships with our customers.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents! Both of my parents have worked so hard & to this day, they still do. I recall my parents leaving early morning, 6:30 am to catch the bus, head to work & come back home till 6 pm/7 pm. Saturday was the only day they got out early. I felt so happy that my mom would say, “Today I’m out at 12”, but that would also follow with cleaning the home or washing in the evening. As a child, I didn’t think “oh my mom is working to provide me with everything,” it was simply, man, my mom works a lot, I miss her.”Their hard work has definitely shaped me to work as hard as I can!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are beautiful the way you are.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The importance of family.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace at the park, lying down, watching my kids enjoy themselves. I truly feel at peace when I can see them playing around without a care in the world.
