Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with John Campbell of Beverly Hills

We recently had the chance to connect with John Campbell and have shared our conversation below.

John, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
No two days are exactly the same but generally I wake up between 6-7am, mediate for 10-15 mins take a few supplements (super green, fish oil, lions main) then hit the gym for an hour. Either lifting, hot yoga or boxing. Sets me up for the day, mind, body and spirit

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m just a fun loving guy with a love of life and who loves to laugh. Realtor and actor enjoying helping and entertaining folks.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
That would be my old Dad. He passed along time ago and took me on (adopted) when he and my mum were in their 50’s. He encouraged me to take up boxing and loved every one of my fights at least as much as I did. He taught me hard work, dedication, focus, determination and work ethic. Get knocked down 7 times get up 8, I like to think I still carry that ethos with me today.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Hey we all have to learn, failing is just part of life. We fall we learn then we rise, in a boxing ring and in life. As an actor you face rejection on a daily basis, even in today’s media age, you turn in a self tape audition that maybe you spent days learning and hours putting together. Getting someone to read the other side of the scene, putting the costume together, lighting, filming sound all considerations then finally you are happy with it. You need to be a tech wizard just to upload it and get it sent in. Then …. Nothing crickets, you were sure you nailed the audition but if you don’t book the job or get the call back chances are you will never hear from the casting director about this job ever again. So I don’t consider that failing. But it sure dosent feel like winning.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That’s a good one, ok ‘What is meant for you won’t pass you bye’
When I first got to Hollywood I did a movie one time with an awesome older actor Car Crudupl ….
What an incredible talent, he took me to one side and said boy, you got some chops then starting to lay some serious wisdom down on me. This guy is as good as Samuel L Jackson, Morgan Freeman or anyone you care to name. I remember asking him with his immense talent how come he wasent living in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills? He just smiled said he was happy and doing what he loves and say Youngun I guess that wasent in Gods plan for me. But I’m working, I’m happy and healthy and whatever is meant for you won’t pass you bye. Not sure I fully understood what he meant then, but I sure do now.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
He was a good man who did his best to help and lift the spirits of everyone he met.
