Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Foday Sillah of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Foday Sillah and have shared our conversation below.

Foday, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day begins with an early wake-up and a focused gym session. Afterward, I enjoy a light breakfast before heading out for a walk. Once I return home, I refuel with a small snack before making my way to the boxing gym. The day winds down with dinner and some well-earned rest.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Foday Sillah. I’m a Sierra Leonean-American professional boxer, currently holding a 5–0 record with 5 knockouts, and an actor based in Los Angeles, California.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
An old boxing coach of mine taught me one of the most valuable lessons I still carry today — that staying calm and thinking clearly makes any situation, no matter the industry, easier to navigate and succeed in.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I was an amateur kickboxer, I suffered a knockout loss that hit me hard — both physically and mentally. I felt like a failure and didn’t want to train or talk to anyone. It was one of the toughest times in my life. But eventually, I made the decision to keep going, and that choice changed everything.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Every now and then, I put on a persona for the public, but in my personal life, I’m more of an introvert. Honestly, I enjoy keeping my personal and professional worlds separate — it helps me stay grounded and true to myself

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember me as one of the greatest boxers to come out of Sierra Leone. I want the world to see me as an inspiration — a courageous warrior prince who fought with heart, discipline, and pride
