Flor Crosta shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Flor, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The ocean is the place I go to feel free, to renovate and find myself again. If its surfing then better, but just dipping my head in salty water, feeling tiny but also a part of everything. I can spend hours at the beach between water, sand and sun.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Flor Crosta, I am from Uruguay, a small country in South America. I grew up and spent most of my life there, surrounded by friends and family that make me feel special up till today when I go visit. I am a photographer, I moved o Los Angeles a year ago and before I was living in New York for two years.
I’m currently free lancing in photography and working in Estudio Persona, a furniture and lighting studio, where I shoot for them.
For my personal work, I have been exploring concepts of intimacy, familiar and unknown, through a series of portraits and nature photography. I’m on the making of two photo projects Sentirme (Feel me) and Volver (Comeback) that allude to this idea.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Up until I was 25, I was doing different things, exploring what I liked and what I wanted to do for a living. I started in medicine, then fashion, hospitality and ended up working as a interior designer. All this happened while taking pictures but I just didn’t pay as much attention as it deserved.
When I was 25, one of my best friends passed away after a long year with cancer. That was for sure the turning point in my life. My hole life changed, I changed as a human being. My priority started to be my life, what I was doing? What was important for Flor? And in those changes, I switched to photography all the way.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Spend time with people you love. Listen as much as you can. Laugh as much as you can.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Im hoping it is but sometimes I don’t really know what is the real me. People change constantly, life changes, it’s part of it.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I don’t think I’m ever retiring because for me photography doesn’t feel like a job.
