We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brock Crockom. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Brock, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Now that’s a fun question! I think that I am walking a path for sure. The thing is, there are so many different branches to this path that it begins to FEEL like I’m wandering. I’d say that I’ve dedicated myself to walking a certain direction, let’s say North, but I definitely don’t have a map towards success. I don’t know how long the path is to achieve my dreams either. Everyday I choose what to eat, where to go, and focus on each individual priority and goal for that day, but it can still feel as if I have no control, because who even knows what is at the end of the path? And will I accidentally take a wrong turn? Is there such a thing as a wrong turn? I think it is so important to work hard to achieve your goals and “Follow the path”, but whether you like it or not, you have to admit that you’re going to wander. What’s an adventure without allowing yourself to wander a bit?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello reader! Brock Crockom here. I’ve been really big into LA’s Indie Improv scene lately. Come see me and my team “Moloprov Cocktail” perform at venues like UCB, The Pack, and The Clubhouse! I love comedy, and really enjoy having a live audience to get their feedback on what they like and don’t like. I find it to be a beautiful community with good vibes and a lot of cool, extremely talented performers. I write sketches and short films as well, including “Morning Munchies” which just launched on Youtube the other day. It’s a really fun sort of stoner-comedy-but-with-a-zombie flick. I love making people laugh, and I strive to do that in ways no one has ever seen before.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Myself, of course! It seems in life that a lot of people are going to tell you what to do, as well as when and how to work. However, only you can express how that makes you feel. Do you find joy in physical labor, and want to be strong? Do you like to make others happy, or do you just work to make money? No one can teach you more about labor than yourself and how you react to it. For me personally, I realized that I love to create art. I also like to interpret and showcase the art of others who are more brilliant than me. Famous playwrights and successful directors and such. I work every day. Some work is fun. Some is challenging and rewarding. Other work feels like a drag. It’s important for you to constantly check in with yourself and learn from your own experiences when it comes to work. An astronaut can talk to you for months about the gig, but nothing will teach you more than your first journey to space.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Hey lil Brock! You’re awesome my guy! You’re going to accomplish great things so just make sure you enjoy the journey! Keep your head up, be kind to the people around you, and always prioritize your friends and loved ones, because that’s really all that matters at the end of the day. I got nothing but faith in you kid. Just keep working hard and even though you are 3 years old, make sure that you invest in Google and that new internet thing, trust me, you’re gonna have to deal with that stuff every day.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Unfortunately yes!! I am an open book and talk far too much. I am a natural teacher, so I often speak from the heart and approach people honestly. Life is hard enough, telling lies and keeping secrets would be way too exhausting. I mean sure, you show a different part of yourself to all of the different people in your life. However, I believe that it’s important for all sides of you to be authentic.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely doing what I was born to do. I am constantly learning and growing, which I think is one of the most important goals for a person to have. I love to read and sing. I became a musician, I learned a fair bit of German, I’ve traveled, I love learning, and then eventually I learned to love acting and performing. I always follow my passions first and they change and grow as I do. I was TOLD to make money, as I’m sure a lot of us were. That never made sense to me though. Make money for what? So that you could get rich and then pursue your dreams? Just start pursuing your dreams!! I don’t care too much about legacy or how the world remembers me. I just want to impact this world in the best ways I possibly can, whether people remember I helped or not.
