Jazmin Akea of Koreatown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jazmin Akea. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jazmin , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me consists of recording music at the studio, film and TV auditions/ prep for bookings, and live hosting for social media. It can also consist of traveling to various destinations and experiencing different cultures.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a singer/ songwriter/ actress based in Los Angeles. What makes my brand special is my ability to cross utilize my skillsets and expertise in the entertainment industry. For example, my producers and I are curating a catalog of songs for television and film for sync placements while I am simultaneously being cast for roles in TV and film as an actress. My current projects include upcoming TV shows and films for streaming via various media platforms.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is distrust and disharmony. I feel that individuals need to be aligned with one another in order to restore a bond fully. If two people are on entirely different pages in life, it can be difficult to come together in a united way.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I changed my mind about needing to be perfect. As an entertainer an artist, I recognize that perfectionist tendencies can hinder growth and progress. It’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to be vulnerable.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe that the public version of me is an extension of me, therefore it is real. However; I am a deeply layered person, and it is not always the case that I let people fully into my internal world.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that when I am gone, people will speak of my resilience and tenacity. I have worked very hard to become the version of myself that I am today, and while some may assume that i received handouts, this is simply not the case. I have attended many auditions and been rejected, and I keep applying myself. I have been told no. I know what it feels like to be turned away from opportunities and stay committed to succeeded regardless of what challenges arise.
