Inspiring Conversations with Tara LaDue of Rainbow Waves Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara LaDue.

Tara , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I decided to make a career change in my 40s due to a chronic disability in my feet that wasn’t going to allow me to do the work I previously did. While I was taking care of my mom before she passed, I decided to go back to school to get my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. It was a lot of time, effort, and stress, taking care of an elderly parent, working while going to school, but I am so happy that I stuck with it. Being a therapist is what I should have been doing all along. I keep reminding myself, you get there when you get there. All the years leading up to 40 gave me the “life credit” to do what I do now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I for sure struggled as I took care of my mom, who had dementia, kidney disease, heart disease, and was mostly blind. Juggling school, work, and caretaking took a huge toll on my health. But, I wouldn’t have done it any other way. The time I had with my mom in those final years was priceless. Despite the difficulties, we had so much fun together, and a lot of laughs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rainbow Waves Therapy ?
I own a therapy private practice in Pasadena, CA called Rainbow Waves Therapy. I see clients in person and online and focus on children and adult women. I am certified in EMDR through EMDRIA, EMDR International Association. EMDR is a trauma processing modality that has been empirically researched to have proven results. I have been trained in IPNB interpersonal modality, which I use with my kiddo clients. I see kids aged 7-18 where I implement mindfulness, art, and play therapy to treat ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma. I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ population, kids, and adults, and creating a safe space for all marginalized communities.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Empathy, action-oriented, vulnerability, and being an ally for marginalized communities. Oh! Only one quality?
