Hi Shelton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Béa Métier was born from love, loss, and an unshakable commitment to helping dogs and their owners. It all started with Béa, my first dog—a spirited 22-pound Boston Terrier who had a way of making every human she met feel special. She was independent, intelligent, and full of personality, always greeting people before even acknowledging other dogs. But on July 18th, 2022, my world turned upside down when Béa was stolen from my home. The grief was immeasurable, but rather than letting it consume me, I channeled it into something meaningful. In May of 2023, I launched Béa Métier, a dog supply business dedicated to keeping dogs happy, safe, and well cared for. From high-quality essentials like durable leashes, harnesses, and dog waste bags to an educational blog filled with insights for responsible pet ownership, my mission is to make life better for both dogs and their humans. My brand isn’t just a business—it’s a tribute. The logo itself is a constant reminder of Béa, a symbol of hope that one day she’ll find her way back to me. Until then, I pour my heart into this brand, knowing that every product, every resource, and every connection made is helping another dog live a better life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, I wish I could say it’s been a walk in the (dog) park, but the reality is more like trying to leash-train a hyperactive puppy—challenging, unpredictable, and occasionally making me question my life choices!
Finding customers has been one of the biggest hurdles. Since Béa Métier is an e-commerce business, I don’t have the advantage of a physical storefront where people can stumble in and discover the brand. Instead, I’ve had to get creative—running ads (some flopped spectacularly, others did okay), searching for the right online markets, and figuring out where pet parents actually shop.
Marketing? Whew. That’s been its own beast. I’ve tried hiring marketing companies, but finding the right one has felt like online dating—lots of promises, not always the best results. And while social media is a great tool, getting noticed in the sea of cute dog content is no easy feat!
Then there are the pop-ups. I do them to get the brand out there, let people see the quality of the products firsthand, and connect with dog lovers face-to-face. But they come with risks—sometimes I pay a hefty fee to set up and end up making way less in sales than I hoped. Other times, they go great, and I meet amazing people who genuinely love what I’m doing. It’s all a gamble.
Despite the bumps in the road, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every challenge pushes me to find new ways to grow, and every win—big or small—reminds me why I started Béa Métier in the first place.
We’ve been impressed with Béa Métier – Healthier Treats, Happier Dog, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Béa Métier isn’t just another pet supply brand—it’s a passion project born out of love, loss, and the unwavering belief that our dogs deserve the best. We specialize in high-quality, single-ingredient dog treats, eco-friendly poop bags, collapsible dog bowls, and other essentials that make life easier for both pets and their humans.
What sets us apart? Heart. Every product we offer is something I’d give to my own dog without hesitation. No fillers, no junk—just good, honest products designed to keep dogs happy, healthy, and thriving. Plus, Béa Métier carries the spirit of my first dog, Béa, whose story is woven into every aspect of the brand. This isn’t just business for me; it’s deeply personal.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the connections I’ve built. Whether it’s through pop-ups, social media, or our blog, I love educating dog parents and helping them make informed choices for their pets. And honestly? Seeing dogs go wild for our treats never gets old!

What are your plans for the future?
Oh, there are always plans brewing! Running Béa Métier is kind of like raising a puppy—constantly evolving, full of surprises, and always keeping me on my toes.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding the brand, reaching more dog lovers, and introducing new products that fit our high-quality, no-nonsense approach to pet care. I’m also working on refining our marketing strategy—because let’s be real, throwing money at ads and hoping for the best isn’t exactly a sustainable plan. Finding the right way to connect with our audience in a meaningful (and cost-effective) way is a top priority.
I’d also love to do more in-person events where people can see, touch, and smell (well, maybe leave the sniffing to the dogs) our products. Pop-ups have been a great way to get the name out there, and I want to be more strategic about choosing the best ones that give the biggest impact.
Long-term, I dream of Béa Métier becoming a household name in the pet industry. Maybe one day, we’ll even have a physical storefront or our own dog-friendly event space—who knows? But for now, I’m just focused on growing, learning, and making sure as many dogs as possible get to enjoy what we offer.
