Inspiring Conversations with Sam Silverstein of Exit 14 Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Silverstein.

Hi Sam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved making videos since as early as I can remember. In high school, I got my start shooting sketches with friends and school news segments. I eventually built a small business in Detroit, MI shooting tons of events like Weddings, Bar / Bat Mitzvahs and corporate events. I later leveraged those relationships into shooting anything I could get my hands on. I would do commercials for anyone that was willing to give me a shot. In the Summer of 2019, I finally moved to Los Angeles with my business partner Jeremy Paczos and we began to quickly grow. We would get creative to make small budgets look big and big budgets look even bigger. Today, I have worked on countless National broadcast Television commercials as well as written / directed a new TV show for Nickelodeon. Currently, I have a few projects in development in both the TV and Feature space as we continue to build out the business and work on as many fun projects as possible.

I accredit where I am today to my obsession with learning and continuing to get better every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think the road to success is ever a smooth one although I believe that is what makes triumph so beautiful. Being a new company, I am always prioritizing doing a great job over making a great profit. Often this comes by way of spending the extra money for better gear or a better crew or a cooler set, etc. – Growing the business has been constant chaos in the best way possible of figuring out every day how to continue to do great work with great people. We have a saying internally “love the madness” and I believe this to the fullest extent.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Exit 14 is a creative and production studio specializing in all things comedy. We make commercials and entertainment projects with the intention of entertaining audiences of all sorts.

Our specialty is catering to a world with a dwindling attention span. Finding creative ways for our clients to reach their audiences in a way that feels enjoyable and not intrusive.

What sets us apart from others is our excitement to be here. We are a young company filled with talented people who haven’t been around long enough to be jaded by the industry. We all go to bed with an eager want to wake up the next day and get to work. Our excitement bleeds through to everyone we hire and every project we touch. We’re relentless about providing good service and a great product.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think it’ll be interesting to see how advertising and entertainment shift over these next few years. I believe TikTok and all the short-form content outlets have created this massive shift where people no longer need to sit through a 2-3 hour film to get their entertainment fix. I do believe brands will look to find a creative way to reach audiences in different places. Finding ways to speak to each demographic differently as there is no more uniform way to address the Baby Boomer audience mixed in with Gen Z. I think entertainment projects will become shorter in length and the demand for strong quality pieces will start to take over the present-day quantity over the quality landscape.
