Inspiring Conversations with Rozy Burchett of The Tiny Deets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rozy Burchett.

Rozy Burchett

Hi Rozy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started coordinating weddings in 2018. Before planning weddings, I had been very involved with planning events for family and friends for as long as I can remember. From birthday parties, bridal showers and baby showers, I always loved be a part of the behind-the-scenes planning and all the details that go into organizing an event.

When my best friends got married in 2017, I fell in love with all the details that went into the planning. I knew I somehow wanted to get involved in this industry. At the time, I approached the venue owner of where my friend had gotten married a few months prior and asked if I could shadow her to learn more about coordinating weddings. She graciously said yes and I started assisting in coordinating weddings at her venue in Upland, CA.

As time went on, I gained the confidence and experience to venture off to coordinate my first solo wedding in 2018. I was referred by a college friend to her good friend who was looking for help on her wedding day. After an exciting weekend in San Diego coordinating my first solo wedding I knew I could totally do this and that is when I started slowly marketing myself on social media to let others know of my services.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Transitioning into planning weddings from planning events as a hobby had its challenges. I wasn’t sure what to charge starting off as I was previously planning events for family and friends for free, ha! I also didn’t know how to get clients after my first referral. However, thankfully through the support of my family and friends, who were super supportive of my tiny business, one referral led to another, and social media’s “word of mouth” led me to meet strangers who became clients — and more importantly led to great friendships. Also, running a small business, or as I like to call mine a tiny business, given my business name, ha! is a lot of work. You’re in charge of everything — emails, marketing, finances and the list goes on, but it’s also so rewarding. The feeling of joy when you get a new inquiry in your inbox still is the greatest feeling!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Tiny Deets is a wedding coordinating business. I specialize in “day of coordination,” which is more like month of coordination. I typically start working with my couples about 60 to 90 days before their wedding to create their wedding timeline and learn about their special day. I am their liaison with all their vendors, confirm arrival and departure and that each vendor has everything they need to execute on the day of. I coordinate rehearsals and also assist with set up and break down on the wedding day. As most know, wedding days go by super fast, especially if it’s your day, so my job is to make sure everything stays on schedule and that no element is forgotten so you can enjoy your best day ever!

I am most proud of being able to take a couple’s hard work of planning — oftentimes months to a year — and bringing their vision to life with the incredible help of vendors throughout the industry. The best feeling is getting a text the morning after the wedding of pure gratitude that the couple didn’t have to worry about anything besides being in the moment with their loved ones on their wedding day.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Definitely my family and friends. They’ve all been so supportive of my tiny business. From sharing it with their circles to hyping me up on the content I share on social media, it really means a lot to have their support.

My clients, whom so many have turned into friends during the process are also so incredible. Knowing that they trust me to be a part of their biggest days is so incredible. I will forever be grateful to all my past, current and future couples.

Lastly, the friendors I’ve created over the years. They’ve taught me so much and have also been so incredibly supportive. The best feeling is hearing that a client booked you through a referral from a vendor.
