Inspiring Conversations with Outer Stace of The Waxtender / Hella Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Outer Stace.

Outer Stace, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have had a love for music since I can remember. My mom always listened to jazz, soul, my dad listened to everything from Frank Sinatra to 70s rock, and he also played guitar and had me around bands and live music constantly. I stayed between my grandparents on both sides, so from my dad’s parents, I was listening to music from the 30s and 40s, and on my mom’s side was all Spanish music. My older sister and cousins always listened to rap/r&b or Madonna/80s music… reggae was a huge part of me also and then living in the Bay Area, I grew up around our whole culture, the hyphy era, etc. I also went to school on the east coast and discovered music and artists that were never really talked about on the west side, so I have just been surrounded by music from all over and in love with it all. I have been singing since I was a child, but I never knew how to write a “normal structured” song or create my own melodies, so I grew up singing and training my voice with covers and when I got the urge to write, I would just write raps and poetry to express myself. I was very shy also, so I kept my musical talents somewhat hidden. I knew eventually somehow I wanted to be able to get out there and sing.

I was in a relationship for seven years until early 2021, and the man I was with has made music his whole life. He built a studio in our house, taught me how to record and use protools, and in 2019, I decided to try to write a song. I re-wrote it about 3 times and then I locked everyone out of the garage and recorded it all myself. It took about 2-3 months, but when I realized I actually liked it, I decided to put it out. The song was well received and my confidence in my musical ability was boosted, but I wasn’t ready to take music completely seriously yet, not to mention a lot of personal things were going on at home. It took some time, but by the end of 2021, I finally decided to start writing and see what I could do. By February of this year, I decided to take music seriously, and by April of 2022, I released my first music video and single “Stay”, which has been streamed in over 80 countries around the world. I have now released my first EP as a part of Exotic Mob Music, and CEO Mobbin101 has helped me ease my way onto stages with him, which has been a complete game changer. I have about 6 shows under my belt now, and it’s up from here!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been pretty smooth, once I buckled down, made the decision and focused, everything that has needed to come my way has. There have been uncomfortable moments, but not in a bad way at all, moreso from a growth standpoint, doing things I haven’t done before. Stretching myself. The workload is definitely more though, being independent, pushing everything ourselves, but that is where the label has come in and helped a lot. Mobbin works really hard for all of us and I appreciate him a lot for that.

I think the most frustrating part has just been the lack of support from people who I would have thought would support me more, BUT the ones who are are who matter most, not to mention there are so many new people/fans comin along supporting, I’m just focusing on the love that’s there.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have two businesses, my main one that pays the bills is The Waxtender. I am a licensed Esthetician and I offer full body waxing, Eyelash Extensions and Tooth Gems (I was a Registered Dental Assistant for eight years in my 20s). I have my own shop in San Leandro, CA where I rent rooms to two other estheticians and work out of my own room. I have been doing this since 2014.

My other business started during covid, it was a way to make some side income since I could not work my business. I make trinkets, 420 accessories, crystal keychains, earrings and wire-wrapped things and set up my vending table at different events and locations around the Bay Area. During covid, my sales were online only. This has definitely become more of a hobby at this point, whereas during covid, it was my main income. Vending at different events actually helped me meet and network with a lot of DJs and artists that I still talk to and work with now musically.

What matters most to you? Why?
Financial stability for myself and my two daughters. They have been through it all with me, seen me down, up, hustlin, everything, they really grew up with me and know my/our struggles, so I just want them to see me come out on top. I want them to know that they can do whatever they want in life, they can listen to others, but still do it their way… and it’s never too late to follow your dreams.. just never stop and you will always get there.
