Today we’d like to introduce you to Oguz Ozcanli.
Hi Oguz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Izmir, Turkey and have always been surrounded by music and film. I was fascinated by how sound can change the way we feel about a story, so I decided to study music at Berklee College of Music. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles and started working as a film and TV composer. Over time, I got to work on a range of projects, from feature films to shows on networks like Netflix, National Geographic, NBC, and Lifetime.
During this time, I met a lot of other Berklee graduates who were incredible musicians and also loved teaching. That’s how the idea for Oz Academy of Music started. I wanted to create a small, online school where students could take lessons from real working musicians who understand both the art and the industry.
At first, it was just a handful of students, but it grew naturally through word of mouth. Now we teach students from all around the U.S. and even internationally.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started Oz Academy, there were plenty of challenges. The hardest part was keeping the lessons personal while also building enough structure for the school to grow. Over time, we found that balance,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Oz Academy of Music is an online music school where lessons are taught one-on-one by award-winning Berklee College of Music graduates who actively work in the music industry. Our instructors are composers, producers, and performers who bring real-world experience into their teaching.
We offer private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, drums, strings, woodwinds, music theory, songwriting, composition, production, and film scoring. What really sets us apart is our personal approach. We customize our curriculum depending on student age, level, and the style they would like to lean into. Students can always reach their teachers, and parents can contact us directly for support. We have a flexible approach. Students can determine the frequency, duration and the intensity of their music training.
Most online music platforms feel automated or disconnected, but we’ve built a small community where students feel known and supported. We work closely with public schools, homeschool families, and adult learners, and we make sure they have an amazing learning experience.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built for quality and care. Every teacher we bring on board is not only talented but also kind, reliable, and genuinely invested in their students. Our goal has always been simple: to make high-quality music education accessible and personal, no matter where someone lives.
