Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Wilkinson.
Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began after the birth of my son, when I went through a very challenging postpartum experience. I quickly realized how little support many mothers receive during those first few months after having a baby. That experience opened my eyes and lit a fire in me to make a difference. I wanted to help other moms feel supported, cared for, and less alone in their postpartum journey. That’s what inspired me to become a postpartum doula.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been very fortunate in my journey. My best friend, who is also a postpartum doula, and I decided to join forces to support mothers and families throughout Orange County. Of course, like any business, there have been learning curves and growing pains, but overall, it has been a rewarding and relatively smooth experience. I truly love what I do, and that makes every challenge worthwhile.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hopeful Beginnings. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
At Hopeful Beginnings, our mission is to nurture and support mothers during the postpartum period so they can rest, recover, and feel confident in caring for their baby. As a postpartum doula, I primarily work overnight, stepping in at bedtime to care for the baby so parents can get some much-needed sleep. I handle everything from feeding and diaper changes to soothing and getting the baby back to sleep.
In addition to newborn care, I help with light household tasks like laundry and tidying up the kitchen—small things that can make a big difference for a tired family. I also support parents by answering postpartum and baby-related questions and helping establish healthy sleep routines. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that moms feel rested, supported, and empowered in their new role.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who or what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I owe a lot to my best friend, who is not only a postpartum doula but also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She was the one who truly inspired and encouraged me to enter this field. Her passion and dedication showed me the profound impact postpartum support can have on a family, and I’m so grateful to have her as both a mentor and a partner in this work.
