Hi Marvin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Marvin J Fadrigo and I am an Asian-American born and raised in the Philippines. My family and I moved to the United States to chase our American Dream in 2012 — but just like in life, rarely anything is ever easy. But the obstacles did not deter me from garbing myself with the knowledge and experience I needed to enable me to carve out my place into this new environment.
The reception of Curated by The MJF is a reflection of how consumers are looking for smarter and more conscious ways of shopping while saving their hard-earned dollars. As Curated by The MJF continues to fulfill my desire to do my part for the planet, we are continuing to raise awareness and advocate for more conscious consumption. Likewise, as we scale up operations to be able to offer more across a wider audience, Curated by The MJF will stand by its promise to deliver classic and timeless pieces that not only help the planet but save those precious dollars.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road certainly has not been easy. As a member of the minority community in the United States, a lot of people will doubt what you can offer and your capabilities. At times, it will also let you doubt yourself too. The hardest part was to prove your authenticity and your desire to do something good. As each person goes through his/her own struggles, I struggled to find the footing on how to even begin. So I started at the very grassroots – I garbed myself with industry knowledge and gained considerable experience. I learned how to think outside the box and offer something that caters to the needs of many people similar to myself. I know that life is hard and not everyone can afford luxury items, but many remain adamant in owning them. The inspiration to own them might be different per person. Some people want to own luxury items because they are celebrating a career milestone.
Some might want to buy them for a special loved one to immortalize an occasion. In this sense, the consumption of luxury goods becomes multi-faceted. But, the competition to gain traction is difficult in a cutthroat industry like fashion. And as the fashion industry continues to recycle old trends from the bygone decades, vintage and classic pieces continue to become more prudent choices for consumers who still want to get the same quality product from the most renowned designer brands. Understandably, the proliferation of replica products does not help our cause. However, by consistently delivering excellent products at very competitive prices while giving a stellar experience – whether a simple handwritten personalized note or choosing to wrap items carefully when packaged – it made all the difference in the world in overcoming these doubts.

Curated by The MJF is a small business in Los Angeles focusing in curated sustainable luxury. We offer a wide selection of authentic pre-loved designer products at very competitive prices. We believe that quality products from the most renowned designers should be more accessible as it not only helps the planet but also saves precious dollars. Through this, many people can enjoy well-made pieces that help them express who they are as a person and represent their personality. Curated by The MJF is a customer-centric company as all of the people who work at the company are shoppers themselves. Hence, we always strive to provide an honest description of all the products we sell and provide a personal approach instead of a traditional, out-of-reach organization.
In the very short two years of Curated by The MJF, we have managed to garner a lot of attention in the media because of the work we have done, having been featured in LA Weekly and NY Weekly. Curated by The MJF is proud that our repeat customer rate is at a staggering 80% and during our first year of business, we were able to do more than $300,000.00 in gross annual receipts. This year, we are on track to more than double that and exceed $750,000.00. As a company, we are humbled by the reception we have received. But looking at the bigger picture, we interpret this as the consumers’ changing shopping behaviors and a general move toward sustainable consumption. It’s a win-win for all.
Any big plans?
This year, we are now offering our products directly to our customers through our website (www.curatedbythemjf.com). This website allows us to reach more customers across the United States and also helps us scale our operations. We now offer a wider selection of products, such as women’s accessories, men’s ready-to-wear, etc. In the future, we hope to strengthen our online presence and give a better experience to our customers by not limiting our offerings to a specific location. We hope to be able to create a more efficient way of shopping by offering an app that will it more accessible for many. Also, in a few years, we want to showcase our products through our very own brick-and-mortar store so that our customers are able to interact with these pre-loved luxury goods and help them make a more informed choice. Through these, we are optimistic that we can deepen customer engagement and strengthen our commitment to deliver excellent service. These various channels will create a more impactful cause for our circular movement, advocating for a more sustainable and conscious way of shopping.
