Hi Marla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Marla owner and creative behind Twinergy Party Design. I started the idea of Twinergy in Jan of 2017. Many people ask me where the name comes from. Well, I’m a mother of twin girls who are so full of life and bouncing energy they are nicknamed Twinergy. It was the perfect name to use for my party design business as my kids were a huge motivator for me to create a life that allowed me to show them how to create something they love to do.
My background is in interior design and architecture. I specialized in Model Homes and Hospitality design, creating spaces for hotels, restaurants, and homes here in the US, China and the United Arab Emirates. I love to create unique spaces that can help bring an idea or dream to life. That professional background, paired with my creative side became a perfect mix for starting a party design business…and let’s face it…I LOVE party planning!
The earlier years of Twinergy Party Design were primarily rentals of your standard party equipment and no design. I supplied tables, chairs, linens and bounce houses! This opportunity was presented to me by my husband who also owns and runs a business in the party rental industry.
I took pride in customer service first and foremost and slowly after receiving rave reviews thru Yelp and Google, began to introduce more design services into my business. Eventually, I dropped the bounce houses and created more of a one-stop shop for party design and services with multiple packages and offerings.
My signature aesthetic is Vintage Boho / Rustic. I love details and color combos that complement and mirror each other.
My design packages now focus on Glamping Style Sleepovers with large Canvas tents, Indoor Kids Sleepovers, a mix of Social Parties and Weddings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think my biggest struggle was when I first started off and was working full-time during the week at my career and full-time weekends in the party setups.
But once I put a plan into place to turn my once “side hustle”, into my main career everything worked out in the timeline it was supposed to.
We’ve been impressed with Twinergy Party Design, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Some of the more unique offerings are the Kids Sleepovers and GlampOuts. These are so popular because they mark a very special occasion. Your first sleepover is sort of a rite of passage as a kid, and super exciting because it’s the party where you are able to share your home with school friends, have them stay overnight and do all the fun sleepover and campout activities in the comfort of your home.
But I don’t limit this to just kids. Our Festival Style Weddings are also a unique way for you to involve your wedding guests with a day full of Glamping Fun.Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Hmmm…this is a hard one. That I myself am NOT a twin…I often get that assumption from the business name. On the contrary, I am 1 of 7 siblings born and raised in Compton. I take pride in my city and my efforts to set goals. I was the first in my family to attend university and graduate. Pretty much been independently living since before 18 when I went to college. But I have always been intentional in creating a life that was for me and those around me. I am so blessed with the platforms like Social Media that help to make those dreams a reality.
